Greenlandic leaders criticised a planned trip this week by a high-profile U.S. delegation to the semi-autonomous Danish territory that President Donald Trump has suggested the United States should annex.
The delegation, which will visit a U.S. military base and watch a dogsled race, will be led by Usha Vance, wife of Vice President JD Vance, and include White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright.Trump has made U.S. annexation of Greenland a major talking point since his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., paid a private visit to the vast, mineral-rich island in January.Greenland's outgoing Prime Minister Mute Egede called the delegation's visit, which runs from Thursday to Saturday, a "provocation" and said his caretaker government would not meet with it."Until recently, we could trust the Americans, who were our allies and friends, and with whom we enjoyed working closely," Egede told local newspaper Sermitsiaq. "But that time is over."... (our emphasis)
After firing more than 200 probationary workers from the nation's federal disaster relief agency, the Trump administration has taken its first step to dismantle the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) just months ahead of hurricane season.
In an email labeled, "Hiring Update" and obtained by CBS News, FEMA informed employees on Friday night of a new hiring process that overhauls contract renewals for more than two-thirds of the agency's workforce, requiring all employees to submit requests for further extensions to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for approval.
The decision has created confusion among the ranks of thousands of employees impacted, with fears that the new process will effectively gut the majority of FEMA's workforce over the next two to four years by forcing employees to reapply for their jobs through the agency's overseers at DHS.
Spurred by President Trump's executive action last month directing the Department of Government Efficiency or "DOGE" to initiate large-scale reductions in the federal workforce, the new policy affects members of the agency's Cadre of On-Call Response known as "CORE" as well as FEMA's reservists."This change will apply to most FEMA positions, as two-year and four-year COREs and Reservists compose much of the workforce," the email read. [snip]
Project 2025 policy proposals include a call for "reforming FEMA emergency spending to shift the majority of preparedness and response costs to states and localities instead of the federal government."
"If states aren't ready, they better get ready," one current FEMA employee told CBS News. "It takes FEMA four months to refresh and restock all of our goods that get sent out for hurricane season. I can't imagine the states are anywhere near staffed up enough or robust enough to handle this mission on their own."... (our emphasis)
Another budding success story for the Malignant Fascist and co-President Musk and his Muskrats in DOGE that will end up costing American lives.
A river that runs between the U.S. and Canada has now run itself right into the middle of the fight between the two allies.
President Donald Trump’s administration has now stopped negotiations to re-up a decades-old U.S.-Canada treaty that controls the flow of the Columbia River between British Columbia after claiming it could play a role in solving California water shortages.
Last year, Biden’s administration reached a tentative three-year agreement with Canadian officials to renew the Columbia River Treaty, which governs flood control and hydropower sharing between the two countries.
It was up to Trump’s administration to finalize the agreement, which could now be in jeopardy — but either nation must give ten years notice before abandoning the agreement`, The Guardian reported. The pause comes as Trump wages a trade war against Canada, levying high tariffs against the country as Canadian officials respond in kind.
Under the original 1964 treaty, Canadian officials agreed to build storage dams that hold back the water to reduce the threat of flooding. This followed a 1948 flood that devastated Vanport, Oregon. In return, American officials granted British Columbia a share of the value of hydroelectric power generated downstream.
The river is responsible for more than 40 percent of hydroelectric power in the U.S., Le Monde reports, and the treaty provides some $200 million to Canada each year.
That could soon all be in jeopardy... (our emphasis)
There's not much of importance that isn't in jeopardy with the moron madman in rampage mode. It is just mind-boggling that, in a short two months, the Malignant Fascist has utterly and forever changed the dynamics with our good friend and neighbor, Canada, with whom we've shared the longest, peaceful international border in the world and who's our biggest trading partner. We've asked these questions before: who benefits from the U.S. picking senseless and debilitating fights with Canada and our other traditional friends and allies? (Spoiler alert: it's the Malignant Fascist's puppetmaster Putin.)
