Writing in The Guardian, Jordana Timerman looks at the repressive state of El Salvador, and it's "state of exception" giving the government extraordinary police state powers. The Malignant Fascist's desire for the same kind of repression of speech and thought here in the U.S. is clearer by the day. The entire article is well worth the read:
"[El Salvadoran dictator Nayib] Bukele has shown how a state of exception can be sustained not just through brute force, but by raising the cost of speaking out. Under his state of exception, anybody can be labeled a criminal and critics often are. Trump is following suit, his policies have already effectively limited freedom of expression for a class of people that must now stay silent for fear of being grabbed off the streets. What Bukele and Trump have both understood is that fear doesn’t just suppress resistance. It can be the foundation of a lasting new order." (our emphasis)
His intimidation of universities, major law firms and other entities is just the start. The MF sees his Executive Orders targeting private citizens and groups who have opposed him as the "official acts" for which the Republican Supreme Court has given him immunity from prosecution. At that rate, we'll be El Salvador one day.
