The MAGAt-dominated Supreme Court ends its current session today, with decisions on several key cases expected this morning. Among the most important is a decision on the deranged Malignant Fascist's Executive Order denying birthright citizenship to U.S. born children of undocumented immigrants. The MF's regime wants to limit orders by District Court judges to their jurisdictions, rather than having a nationwide effect. Another involves the redrawing of a Louisiana Congressional map to allow for better representation of African American voters after Republican attempts to gerrymander districts to discriminate against them.
With the makeup of this Court, we can never be confident of a ruling that doesn't support the fascistic goals of the MF. Stay tuned for updates.
UPDATE: CNN has live updates of the rulings coming down, with blistering dissents from SCOTUS' liberal justices.
Justice Sotomayor on the birthright citizenship ruling:
“Today, the threat is to birthright citizenship. Tomorrow, a different administration may try to seize firearms from law-abiding citizens or prevent people of certain faiths from gathering to worship,” Sotomayor wrote. “The majority holds that, absent cumbersome class-action litigation, courts cannot completely enjoin even such plainly unlawful policies unless doing so is necessary to afford the formal parties complete relief.”
Justice Jackson on the same ruling:
“Perhaps the degradation of our rule-of-law regime would happen anyway. But this Court’s complicity in the creation of a culture of disdain for lower courts, their rulings, and the law (as they interpret it) will surely hasten the downfall of our governing institutions, enabling our collective demise.”
Trump's kangaroo court, folks.
🤔 I think pretty soon I won't be considered a US citizen anymore. On my father's side of the family, my great-grandparents were Irish immigrants (you know, disgusting, unwelcome scum rejected by so many) who were not yet citizens when my grandmother was born to them so, obviously my grandmother was not a citizen! But, because she THOUGHT she was a citizen, she was never naturalized so my father could not possibly have been a citizen! (I wonder if he would have joined the Marines at age 17 and fought in the Pacific in WWII and in Korea if he had known he wasn't a citizen?). So, I cannot possibly be a citizen just because I was born in KC, MO. My lineage is so tainted I suppose I should be deported, but I guess I'll be sent to some hellhole gulag instead of to County Cork which I would thoroughly enjoy!! 🤬
ReplyDeleteAm I kidding about this? I don't know. But, on the upside, lots of Trump family members will get deported under the same scenario!!👏✊️💪🤣
Cleora -- we're in danger too, being descendants of unwelcome immigrants from County Cork! Also, some of our descendants fought on the wrong side in the Civil War (the Union), so our lineage is doubly suspect!
ReplyDeleteUh oh! My Grammy on my Mom's side was a lifelong member of United Daughters of the Confederacy!! She had a lot of arguments with me (named after her...I'm the 5th Cleora, and born on Robert E. Lee's birthday so I knew by default I was the favored grandchild) because I had that Irish blood mixed with her British heritage! Irish wins!! And I didn't care for these faux Southern ladies always saying "lest we forget!"
DeleteI would challenge her with "Grammy, why don't you want to forget? You lost!! Big!!" 🤭
Late in her life, Grammy overheard one of my cousins asking me how I got away with sassing Grammy all the time. Grammy gave the answer..."she's the only one of y'all who talks with me at all!" Grammy made herself into the unapproachable matriarch and found it was a lonely life. Except for that opinionated Irish Cleora who was always up for debate!! 😜
