The day-to-day, hour-to-hour chaos in the erratic Malignant Loser's tariff wars has hit our good neighbors Canada again. As the Associated Press reports, the MF has notified Canada that he will slap a ridiculous 35% tariff on their products on August 1:
"President Donald Trump said in a letter that he will raise taxes on many imported goods from Canada to 35%, deepening a rift between two North American countries that have suffered a debilitating blow to their decades-old alliance.
The Thursday letter to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is an aggressive increase to the top 25% tariff rates that Trump first imposed in March after months of threats. Trump’s tariffs were allegedly in an effort to get Canada to crack down on fentanyl smuggling despite the relatively modest trafficking in the drug from that country. Trump has also expressed frustration with a trade deficit with Canada that largely reflects oil purchases by America." (our emphasis)
The MF's use of tariffs to punish Canada for fentanyl traffic is absurd; less than 1% of all fentanyl coming into the U.S. comes over the Canadian border. As for the oil purchases from Canada, perhaps the MF is ignorant of our addiction to fossil fuels and his own opposition to renewable energy as a possible reason. The likelihood of the MF caving at some point when he gets pressure from major donors and industries is high, thus his well-earned moniker of "TACO." In the meantime, nations around the world are wondering what this unhinged ignoramus will do next to cause upheaval in world trade. Whatever it is, it won't be pretty, especially for U.S. consumers who are beginning to feel the effects of his incompetence.
