Argentina First, America Second

The lawless Malignant Fascist has decided that his right wing imitator in Argentina, bouffant-sporting President Javier Milei, is worth a $20 billion bailout with money that he has cut from health care budgets here at home. He's now supporting an additional $20 billion to be raised from private sources.  The MF's using the funds to prop up Milei as Argentina's election approaches. From NBC News:

"The Trump administration is working on an additional $20 billion support package for Argentina. If completed, it would bring the total price tag of a U.S. backstop plan for Buenos Aires to $40 billion.

'It is a private-sector solution to Argentina’s coming debt payments,' Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said of the latest round of funding Wednesday.

Bessent said the United States would arrange funding commitments from banks and sovereign wealth funds to cover the second $20 billion tranche.

The comment was most likely designed to allay growing fears that U.S. taxpayers will supply the funds for the administration’s extraordinary financial rescue plan for Argentina.

Argentine President Javier Milei — a close ally of President Donald Trump — is struggling to maintain public support for his massive budget cuts and austerity programs." (our emphasis)

Earlier this month, the U.S. Treasury bought $20 billion worth of Argentine pesos, angering the public and specifically farmers:

"[Treasury Secretary Scott] Bessent, under fire from U.S. farmers and Democratic lawmakers, has insisted that the credit swap is not a bailout. Farmers are angry about the idea of rescuing Argentina, whose own farmers have benefited from a recent gush of sales of soybeans to China at the expense of their U.S. counterparts. Lawmakers have pushed Trump to explain how this financial help aligns with his 'America First' agenda.

After the announcement Thursday, a group of Democratic Senators introduced the “No Argentina Bailout Act,” which would stop the Treasury Department from using its Exchange Stabilization Fund assist Argentina.

'It is inexplicable that President Trump is propping up a foreign government, while he shuts down our own,' Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, said in a statement. 'Trump promised ‘America First,’ but he’s putting himself and his billionaire buddies first and sticking Americans with the bill.'” (our emphasis)

It's clear the MF is trying to prop up a world-wide network of right-wing authoritarians that will be beholden to him and support his political and economic goals.  Milei is just the most recent, and at $40 billion, the most expensive for American taxpayers.
