No Obamacare Extension; Next Up: "Trumpcare"?

The Malignant Fascist is ruling out an extension of Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare") tax credits when they expire on December 31, leading to skyrocketing premiums, loss of coverage, higher costs for the healthcare system, etc.  As he told his fellow Republican sociopaths yesterday, don't "waste your time and energy" on it.  So much for the "promise" of a "negotiation" for which those 7 Senate Democrats and one "independent" surrendered on the budget bill.

So, are you ready for "Trumpcare"?

"... President Donald Trump has apparently decided that he can take one of his faux-populist stances by promoting the idea of sending subsidies directly to Americans instead of the “big bad insurance companies,” allowing Americans to negotiate with the corporations on their own. Setting aside the notion that individuals can negotiate the cost of their health care, this daft idea offers no explanation as to how it’s supposed to save people money. They would still have to kick in their own share of higher premiums.

It’s clear that Trump doesn’t understand anything about insurance — but then some Republican senator doctors apparently don’t either. In a speech on the Senate floor, Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall complained that 40% of people insured under Obamacare don’t file any claims, which means they shouldn’t be on the program. Then there is a more serious proposal by Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy, who wants to send Trump’s subsidies to a mandatory Health Savings Account, which experts warn would end up collapsing the ACA Marketplaces.

But not to worry. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., says he’s writing the legislation and that he’s an expert. He once ran HCA, the country’s largest for-profit health care company — until he resigned in 1997 during a federal investigation. In 2003, the company was found to have defrauded Medicare and had to pay $1.7 billion, then the largest fine in U.S. history..." (our emphasis)

The long Republican project of taking affordable health care away from Americans is re-energized again, with the empty- heading Malignant Fascist and the multi- millionaire "expert" Medicare fraudster taking charge.  Of course, the MF's only real interest in this is to eliminate this singular achievement by the Black president who always got the better of him.  The scheme turns the idea of affordable health care on its head, with high deductibles, high premiums and terrible coverage in order to make the average person more "responsible" for their health and health care costs. It comports with the social Darwinist policies pushed by HHS Secretary Brainworm:

... In their zeal to "Make America Healthy Again," Trump administration officials are making statements that some advocacy and medical groups say depict patients and the doctors who treat them as partly responsible for whatever ails them.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and agency leaders have attributed a panoply of chronic diseases and other medical issues — such as autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, depression, diabetes, and obesity — to consumers and their lifestyle choices, according to a review of 15 hours of recorded interviews, social media statements, and federal reports.
[snip]

The statements are more than rhetoric. These attitudes, ranging from judgments about individual behaviors to criticism of the chronically poor, are shaping policies that affect millions of people. The sentiments have been a factor behind decisions to cut Medicaid, keep federal insurance programs from covering anti-obesity drugs, and impose new barriers to COVID-19 vaccines for healthy people, say public health leaders and doctors. GOP lawmakers and federal health officials, they say, hold a reproachful stance toward chronic illnesses and the estimated 129 million people in the U.S. affected by them... (our emphasis)

Health insurance that neglects the true costs of health care for the average person while putting the blame on people that get sick but can't afford care.  Doesn't that make you feel like they have the public's interests at heart?!

What stupid, vengeful, sadistic "leaders" we have in this country.

BONUS:  More evidence from another sociopathic simpleton --

Markwayne Mullin: "Reward people for being healthy. Think about this. Healthcare is the only industry that you're not rewarded for taking care of your responsibility. If you think about homeowners insurance, if you're within 500 feet of a fire hydrant, your insurance goes down."

  1. (Thanks for the link to Marshall's complaint and responses-wow!)
🤬 Dr. Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) is not stupid. He sure as hell thinks we are! Marshall believes that he can lie and explain to the wretched rabble (us!) that paying for insurance is a scam.
Hooray for Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL) responding with what every one of us rabble immediately thought:
"My wife and I pay for life insurance even though we have never died. I pay for fire insurance even though my house has never burned down. That's not because we want to throw money at insurance companies. It's because THAT'S HOW INSURANCE WORKS." 🤪
Casten could have added the old joke..."Needing insurance is like needing a parachute. If it isn’t there the first time, chances are you won’t be needing it again.” 🤭
