We shouldn't be surprised that the unhinged and ignorant Malignant Fascist's National Defense Strategy, released yesterday, walks away from our traditional alliances. It's reflective of the MF's petty grievances and Kremlin-fed propaganda that has animated him for the past two decades. From the Associated Press:
"The Pentagon released a priority-shifting National Defense Strategy late Friday that chastised U.S. allies to take control of their own security and reasserted the Trump administration’s focus on dominance in the Western Hemisphere above a longtime goal of countering China.
The 34-page document, the first since 2022, was highly political for a military blueprint, criticizing partners from Europe to Asia for relying on previous U.S. administrations to subsidize their defense. It called for 'a sharp shift — in approach, focus, and tone.' That translated to a blunt assessment that allies would take on more of the burden countering nations from Russia to North Korea.
'For too long, the U.S. Government neglected — even rejected — putting Americans and their concrete interests first,' read the opening sentence.
It capped off a week of animosity between President Donald Trump’s administration and traditional allies like Europe, with Trump threatening to impose tariffs on some European partners to press a bid to acquire Greenland before announcing a deal that lowered the temperature." (our emphasis)
The MF's abandonment of our NATO allies, as witness his shocking and delusional speeches and comments in Davos, his bullying obsession with the territory and resources of an ally, and his vile slur about NATO allies not manning the front lines in Afghanistan are all a part of his transactional, authoritarian, reactionary outlook. It's making the Kremlin and other adversaries overjoyed at not having to lift a finger to advance their objectives since the MF will do it for them.
By taking focus away from an expansionist China, allies Japan, South Korea, the Philippines and especially Taiwan can expect heightened aggression from Beijing, with little or no help from the MF's regime. Also, as the MF's "defense strategy" shifts to the Western Hemisphere, nations in Central and South America can expect more intervention and exploitation, with Venezuela being the canary in the coal mine. It's a reversion to the "gunboat diplomacy" of the past, where the U.S. sees its Latin American neighbors as virtual colonies, to be governed by the compliant likes of the Mileis and Bukeles to the U.S.'s advantage.
