The deranged and lawless Malignant Fascist ramped up his sinister threats against Greenland and Denmark yesterday, as he wrote on his failing social media site, "NATO becomes far more formidable and effective with Greenland in the hands of the UNITED STATES. Anything less than that is unacceptable.”
Of course, the MF's assertion about NATO, which he desires to weaken, has nothing to do with his obsession to annex Greenland, nor do his claims of "national security" or concerns about Russia or China taking over. It's all about the mineral wealth of the territory, as it is with Venezuela's oil reserves. Specifically, he sees enormous profits for himself and his oligarch supporters in mining that mineral wealth that is needed for developing technologies.
NATO should, but won't, call his bluff and assemble a potent military force -- land and sea -- to protect Greenland from the MF's supposed adversaries Russia and China. They won't because of their fear of a tantrum from him. The UK's Prime Minister Keir Starmer would be in the strongest position to hold the MF off, given the MF's fondness for the UK and its monarchy, but he's proven to be a weak, feckless junior partner who is usually the first to support the MF's outrageous actions. The parties watching this travesty unfold with glee are Russia and China, who are eager for the MF to unravel decades of our international alliances and to depict us as an imperial power (which we have in fact become). He's fulfilling their hopes for a new, authoritarian world with spheres of influence, where democracies are stifled and even eliminated as they pursue imperial dominance in their spheres.
