QOTD -- "Living In The Lie"

 

"... I don’t know about you, but I find the endless lies and lying often to be the most infuriating and demoralizing part of the present situation. In the wake of this terrible killing in Minneapolis, my first thought, after the initial shock, anger, and sadness, was the knowledge that the next few days, months, weeks, and years would be filled with endless lying about what happened from the regime and its stooges. This filled me, if not quite with despair, then at least with a strong sense of depression. I suppose it has something to do with my vocation as a historian, where I can accept tragedy and even evil as unavoidable parts of the human experience, so long as witness can be borne and the truth eventually discovered.  [snip]

The administration comes up with totally absurd lies; they are obscene and preposterous. This is presented as truth, objectivity, or fairness, but it is its ultimate destruction. For instance, this is what I believed was going on with Bari Weiss’s memo. It struck me as the beginning of a system of apparatchiks who produce legitimating propaganda for a regime that openly mocks the truth. Such people can flatter themselves that they are independent and not members of “the Party,” so to speak, but they are living in a lie. They are pretending that there’s something more than issuing from the mouths of authority than obscenities and lies. I, for one, won’t play along with this stupid ritual. It poses as civility but is in reality the death of civic life..." (our emphasis) -- author and historian John Ganz, in "Living in the Lie" in his Substack Unpopular Front yesterday.  We feel like we're drowning in the lies, the deceit, the ugliness -- everything that comes with the Malignant Fascist and his regime of empty, maleficent misfits.  It will take a complete national rebirth in order to clean out the Augean stables of corruption, hate, and treason that the MF and those misfits have created.
