Will The Military Stop Trump?

According to the UK's Daily Mail, the Malignant Fascist and his fascist regime (notably Stephen "PeeWee Goebbels" Miller) are going forward with a plan to invade Greenland:

...[T]he President has asked the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) to prepare the invasion plan, but it is being resisted by the joint chiefs of staff on the grounds that it would be illegal - and would not be supported by Congress.

One source said: 'They have tried to distract Trump by talking about less controversial measures, such as intercepting Russian 'ghost' ships - a clandestine network of hundreds of vessels operated by Moscow to evade Western sanctions - or launching a strike on Iran.'

Diplomats have war-gamed what they describe as an 'escalatory scenario' under which Trump uses force or 'political coercion' to sever Greenland's links to Denmark.

One diplomatic cable describes the 'worst-case' scenario as leading to 'the destruction of Nato from the inside'.

It adds: 'Some European officials suspect this is the real aim of the hardline MAGA faction around Trump. Since Congress would not allow Trump to exit Nato, occupying Greenland could force the Europeans to abandon Nato. If Trump wants to end Nato, this might be the most convenient way to do it.'

To which law professor Paul Campos responds,

... In all non-satiric sincerity, I believe we are rapidly reaching the point where a military coup would be:

(a) Justifiable; and

(b) The least bad option in the face of what is staring us all in the face, which is the complete failure of our legal and political systems to deal with the fact that the world’s most powerful military is currently subject to the violently apocalyptic whims of a demented madman. This is not hyperbole: this is the simplest and most straightforward description of the present emergency.

A military coup would of course be a terrible thing, but at this point it may well be a terrible thing in the way that chemotherapy that might ultimately kill the patient is a terrible, but nevertheless sometimes necessary, thing.

Donald Trump must be removed from office immediately, the legal mechanisms for doing this are not going to do it — this could not possibly be more obvious, nor could the reasons why be any more obvious, so there’s no purpose in belaboring either point — and it therefore follows that technically extra-legal mechanisms must at least be considered, by those in a position to act. The alternative is to conclude that the Constitution of the United States should be treated as a literal suicide pact.

There's a robust and growing list of reasons for the unfit and deranged MF to be removed from office; the use of Congressionally-unauthorized military force in Greenland is one that would have immediate and catastrophic damage to the post-World War II order and, specifically, to our national security.  It's the most likely issue that could trigger a sense of clear and present danger in the minds of our military leaders.

But, how likely is that?  Not very likely at all, we think.  Even if it's true that so far they've been trying to distract the MF from this adventure knowing what a disaster would ensue, what happens if he should give the order to invade, especially without Congressional authorization?  Do they refuse to obey the unlawful order, or do they rationalize going along?  Do they resign and let a subaltern carry out the order anyway?  Practically speaking, would troops follow a military leader's orders or those of the "Commander-in-Chief," who (we suspect) many of them voted for and support?

We think it's a pipe dream, meaning our best approach is to "keep calm and carry on":  ramp up the pressure on the MF, keep fighting the regime in every way as best we can individually and collectively, make sure we're preparing ourselves for the worst in the long haul, and hope that the MF (as a commenter recently said) strokes out or chokes on a Big Mac before he triggers the Apocalypse.  It's also important to keep reminding ourselves that we're the majority in this country, and that we're the true patriots and fighters for the Constitution, rule of law, and democracy.

  1. I am the commenter who said our best hope may be that the MF strokes out or chokes on a Big Mac. I appreciate having my comment used!
