In an overnight session last night, the Senate passed a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security that provides funds for the TSA, Coast Guard and FEMA through September. The bill excluded funds for ICE and Border Patrol, although they have sufficient funds from the Malignant Fascist's Big Ugly Bill from last year to support them. Dems were unable to get Republicans to include guardrails for domestic terrorist ICE and Border Patrol, such as wearing IDs, removing masks, and getting judicial warrants before entering a private home.
The bill now moves to the House, where it's unclear whether it will pass in its current form. However, the House will be under great pressure from the public to pass the bill, to relieve those parts of Government that the public relies on. Whether the reckless and volatile MF will sign the bill is also not a certainty, since he's been demanding that his election-rigging, ass-saving "SAVE Act" pass before any other legislation. Dems now need to raise public awareness that these past few weeks of turmoil were solely caused by Republican intransigence, since this was the Dems proposal from the start to separate ICE and Border Patrol funding in the bill.
A separate funding bill for ICE and Border Patrol is apparently going to be part of a reconciliation package that only requires a majority of the Senate to pass, meaning there will be reduced levers that Dems can use to introduce reforms to those rogue agencies. Stay tuned.
