The delusional and narcissistic Malignant Fascist's junket to China, with a number of tech bros in tow, was supposed to show his strength versus Chinese President Xi, but he managed to show the opposite. From his obsequious kowtowing to Xi ("great leader," etc.), to not getting Xi to strong arm Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, and to Xi's putdown of the MF's America as in decline, the trip didn't go well. From MS Now's Steve Benen:
"Trump reportedly hoped to make some progress on Chinese policy toward Iran, but by all accounts, there were no breakthroughs. He also hoped to advance U.S. trade policy, but despite some rhetoric about vague 'deals,' the White House had nothing of substance to point to after the trip wrapped up.
A related report from the Financial Times added that Xi 'conceded little' to Trump and said that their discussions 'yielded no clear breakthroughs on the big foreign policy and economic fissures between the two countries and fell short of delivering the sort of big business deals the White House covets from international summits.'
Indeed, the American president who arrived in China in a position of weakness was no better off upon exiting the country. If anything, Trump established a new equilibrium that elevated the U.S. rival." (our emphasis)
The MF lied repeatedly about the junket being a great success, as he would have no matter what happened. In the sense that he gave Xi an international platform to show the MF deferring to him and praising him, yet walking away with nothing but a big parade and state dinner, it was a roaring success for China. Xi and his government can read polls in the U.S. and know that they are dealing with an unpopular, ignorant, and mentally unstable wannabe dictator susceptible to flattery and bribes. So far, China's public assessment of the trip hasn't matched the self-serving puffery of the MF, and we suspect that won't change.
