Trump's Religious Zealots And Golden Statues

 

The lawless and immoral Malignant Fascist has always had trouble talking about the Bible ("two Corinthians"; can't name a favorite part, etc.) because it's likely he's never read any part of it. Nonetheless, he's the center of a cult of right-wing white Christian nationalists who want to tear down the barrier between church and state that the framers put in the Constitution.  The role of the so-called "Religious Liberty Commission" is to promote the expression of religion in the "public square," i.e. in public institutions.  As the Associated Press reports. some of the recommendations of the commission go beyond the religious liberty enshrined in the First Amendment: 

"One member calls for a Presidential Medal of Freedom for a baker who refused to create a wedding cake for a same-sex couple.

Another calls for court interventions by the Department of Justice on behalf of Amish parents fighting New York vaccine requirements and Catholic nuns challenging that state’s requirement that they accommodate hospice patients’ gender identities.

And the chair of the Religious Liberty Commission is calling for a federal hotline with this automated recording: 'There is no separation of church and state.'

These are just some of the recommendations that members of the advisory panel formed by President Donald Trump last year want to see included in the commission’s final report."

Aside from this attempt to ingratiate himself with religious communities claiming victimization, the MF has surrounded himself with some right-wing evangelicals and "prosperity gospel" heretics who have often suggested that he has been anointed by heaven, apparently prompting him to think of himself as Jesus on his social media platform.  Some of them are in the Golden Calf stage of idolatry, as we saw when a group of them gathered at the MF's Doral Golf Club to unveil a golden statue of their worshipped leader:

The absolutely clueless group of "religious" leaders that gathered to worship before their new gold  god might want to reflect on the depths of their blasphemy.
