The election- subverting Malignant Fascist's dog's breakfast of a speech last night was about as expected, with lies, absurdities, and threats galore:
President Donald Trump used a primetime address to the nation Thursday to elevate his yearslong push to raise doubts about the legitimacy of U.S. elections and dispute his 2020 loss in an appeal for more restrictive voting laws ahead of the midterms.
Trump’s amplification of debunked theories about the election six years ago and his inability to accept his loss led to one of the darker moments in American history when a mob of his supporters led a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in the final days of his first term.
Now back in power, Trump opted to revisit the subject, despite persistent voter concerns about the cost of living, American forces escalating strikes on Iran in a conflict for which there is no end in sight, and an immigration crackdown facing bipartisan scrutiny for its sometimes deadly tactics.
His address Thursday hinged on contradictions.
A twice-elected president complained about his one personal defeat, alleged a cover-up by officials in his own first administration and surfaced claims about countries attempting to harm his own prospects while staying silent on steps taken by other nations to boost him.
Trump used the remarks to justify his push to pass a strict voter ID bill in Congress that has not advanced because it lacks enough support from his fellow Republicans...
Almost every sane media outlet fact- checked the psychotic Malignant Fascist's years-old garbage so we won't have to here.
To their everlasting credit, no major network (except Fox "News" of course) aired the speech in its entirety on their main platforms, and those that didn't were threatened by the would-be king:
Some major TV networks showed President Donald Trump’s prime-time address live on Thursday night while others pointedly did not — a divide that highlighted Trump’s long record of lying and renewed discussion about the news media’s responsibilities.
The White House took the rare step of formally asking the broadcast networks to take the speech live, setting up Trump to castigate those that opted not to.
And Trump made network decision-making a talking point in his speech. He harshly criticized NBC and ABC for not preempting their prime-time shows for his address and said it “should mean a revocation of their licenses.”
The two other major US broadcast networks, CBS and Fox, did air the unusual prime-time address.
CBS surrounded the speech with fact-checking and context both before and immediately afterward, a practice sometimes called a “truth sandwich.”...
CNN opted not to take the speech live, instead treating it like other presidential events that are monitored for news and scrutinized for accuracy...
So, except for the already-converted MAGAts who tuned in, it would appear that last night's goal of spreading doubt about American election security in order to rig the 2026 mid-terms was a flop. But, not to worry: the MF and his un-democratic fascist minions in Congress will keep trying, up to and through the mid-terms. But we've seen part of the playbook laid out last night, and forewarned is forearmed.
