The Mavericks' singer/ songwriter/ guitarist Raul Malo was born on this day in 1965, but sadly passed away last December at the too-young age of 60 after a struggle with cancer. Malo's rich, emotive baritone provided the foundation for the group's succession of hits, starting with 1993's "What A Crying Shame," one of several songs he wrote with Kostas. This is a live performance of that song, taped at BBC studios in 1994 for the Jools Holland show, "The Tube."
Dream River is the greatest Roy Orbison song that Roy never did.
