QOTD -- Shellacking

"Three weeks ahead of the 2026 midterms, the Republican Party’s closing pitch to voters is something like this: public executions; easily refuted slander; torturous abuse of black immigrants; bribery; subversion. They are reinforcing many if not all of the reasons the public wants to throw the bums out. The Republican Party’s only surrogates at this point are the dregs of society and the equally despised oligarchs of Big Tech, but I repeat myself.

"I think the GOP politicians who survive the midterm will regret this. I also think it might, in a perverse way, be good news for those who fear a post-Trump GOP revival..." -- Brian Beutler, in his "Off Message" Substack, who argues there should be (and he thinks will be) "No Fake Makeover For The Post-Trump GOP."  He goes on to compare prospects of a MAGAt Republican drubbing in November to the  "shellacking" Democrats got in the 2010 mid-terms and the "chastening" effect it had that led, two years later, to President Obama's solid re-election.  Would MAGAt Republicans be "chastened" by a shellacking in November?  Beutler has doubts, and so do we.

We need to vote to make that shellacking reality.
