Dem Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed (MI) won the Democratic primary in August after a rough and tumble campaign dominated by pro-Likudnik group AIPAC's well-funded, scurrilous campaign against him. Just days before the mid-term election, AIPAC's candidate Rep. Haley Stevens is now seeking to undermine El-Sayed by publicly demanding that he "apologize" for remarks about Israel's rapacious war in Gaza and violence on the West Bank. From Politico:
"After it seemed like former primary rivals Abdul El-Sayed and Rep. Haley Stevens might finally appear together, they’re back to sniping at each other. And it could hardly come at a worse moment as Democrats look to unite behind El-Sayed and hold on to a pivotal Senate seat.
El-Sayed’s campaign is asking Stevens to stay away from all future campaign events in the closing days of the race, two people familiar with the decision, who were granted anonymity to discuss sensitive campaign dynamics, told POLITICO.
She should stay away 'as not to distract from the central issues of the campaign,' one of the people said."
Haley's fiancee, injury lawyer Jason Turkish -- nominally a Dem -- announced days ago that he would be supporting El-Sayed's opponent, big Pharma MAGA man Mike Rogers in the election. The Michigan campaign by Rogers, "JV Dance," and the Malignant Fascist has been rife with vicious Islamophobia directed at El-Sayed and his family. Sore loser Stevens and her fiancee seem not to care about that.
Stevens' role as a wrecker will likely doom her political future as a Dem. If she switches parties, which is entirely possible, she'd get the financial backing needed from AIPAC. We'll open the door for her.
