Weekend Music

Belated happy birthday to singer, musician, songwriter and activist Cyndi Lauper, who turned 70 yesterday.  It's somehow appropriate that her birthday lands during Pride Month, since she's been a fierce and tireless advocate for LGTBQ+ rights for decades.  Her 1986 song "True Colors" (written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly) has become an anthem for the LGTBQ+ community, and is also the inspiration for Lauper's non- profit "True Colors Fund" for ending LGTBQ+ youth homelessness.  She also does fundraising for the Human Rights Campaign.  When President Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act on December 13, 2022, she was there to sing "True Colors."  Today, we're featuring the original music video from 1986.  So, belated happy birthday to a true mensch.

Mid-Week Rainbow Song

Over the years, Cyndi Lauper's 1986 hit recording has become an informal anthem of the LGBT community. Here, in memory of the lives lost in Orlando, is a live performance of "True Colors."
But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow
