Quote of the Day

"Look, of course not." - - former Secretary of State Lawrence "The Burger has Eagled" Eagleburger, a supporter of McSleazy, when asked whether Gov. You Betcha is ready to step in as President should the need arise. Eagleburger, Secretary of State for Bush 1 for a time, also said that You Betcha would only make an "adequate" commander-in-chief, and that "I devoutly hope that she would never be tested." Us, too.

The Ambitious "Maverick"

Frank Rich's column in this morning's New York Times is a chilling review of Gov. Who?'s overwhelming ambition and cluelessness. With McAncient's health a rising concern (he won't allow his medical - - or mental health - - records to be examined in detail), no one discounts the real possibility that he could die in office. Someone who was mayor of a town of 8,000 in Alaska only 22 months ago has convinced herself that she could be President from day one, and her abundance of ambition should worry everyone. But the wingnuts love it. They're willing to ignore her complete unpreparedness, her sloppy thought process, and her running of the Governor's office to reward friends and punish enemies.

"Country First". Riiiiiight.

29 Seconds

That's the amount of time Gov. Who? was exposed to the media today, on her whirlwind photo-op with Afghan President Hamid Karzai. After Gov. Who? and Karzai exchanged small talk about children, the media was ushered out of the room, after which presumably Gov. Who? discussed her strategic plans for ridding Afghanistan of Taliban and al Qaeda forces: "pray."

The mainstream media are getting very restless over the stonewall that the McMaverick campaign has erected around their VP nominee. Weeks of unavailability, no press conferences, nada. What do we know about her, someone who could be a heartbeat away from the Presidency? It shows the contempt that the McMaverick bunch has for our democracy.

Headline of the Day

"Is it sexist to want the person flying the plane to be a pilot?" - - Kathleen Reardon's article in HuffPo talking about Who?'s qualifications.

Short Term Memory

Back in October 2007, when McSleazy was running for the Rethug nomination, he disparaged short term mayors and governors as not having the national security experience required to be President. He obviously wasn't referring to his running mate, Gov. Who?, former mayor of Wasilla (pop. 8,400) and Alaskan Governor for 20 months. She's soooooo qualified!

Bwahahahahahahaha.

Atten-Hut! About Face!

Tuned into the RNC fib-a-thon last night, but changed channels after (honestly) 30 seconds of watching the antics of Rudy, "Mayor of 9/11." The Travel Channel was doing a tour of doughnut shops around the U.S. which was more interesting.

So we missed the speech that someone wrote last week for a different gender VP, and had to rewrite when Sen. McAncient went with his "gut" at the last minute and selected Who? Hopefully, she talked about her Alaska National Guard "command" experience, because here's what her hometown newspaper had to say about that. Did she direct the deployment of a C-17 cargo plane for Hurricane Gustav relief? No, her chief of staff did. Was she involved in the decisionmaking to send her National Guard to handle erosion problems in western and northwestern Alaska? No, the general in command did that. OK, well did she even ask the Guard to provide security for the Mount Marathon Run (seriously)? No, that was the general, too. In the last year, the Governor hasn't directed the Alaska National Guard for anything, delegating the responsibility to the general.

Quote of the Day

"Now that Hurricane Gustav has fizzled, there's only one disaster story to cover, and she's it. . . .The press is merely doing on short notice what the McCain campaign's vetting team should have done since March. . .and now: properly vetting his vice-presidential candidate." - - Jack Shafer, in Slate.

Quotes of the Day

"She's not prepared to be Governor. How can she be prepared to be Vice President or President?" -- Sen. Lyda Green, President of Alaska's State Senate, and a Republican, speaking about Sarah "Who?" Palin.

"She's old enough. She's a U.S. citizen." -- Rep. John Harris, Speaker of Alaska's House of Representatives, and a Republican, when asked about Palin's qualifications.
