Of Beards, Blessings, and Terrorists

No one is better at exposing the right-wing's hypocrisy over the Bergdahl prisoner exchange than Jon Stewart's The Daily Show.  The wingnut Wurlitzer / Fux Channel Berghazi Bendahl poo factory has been in a lather over Bob Bergdahl's (Muslim?) beard and his use of an Islamic blessing last week at the White House.  Watch how he reminds us of Dumbya's acceptance of the blessing, and of the Fuxers' cultivation of the true domestic terrorists at Nevada's Bundy "ranch."

Letters We Wish We'd Written Dept. - Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl Edition

From this morning's once great Washington Post Bezos Bugle:
Those who would heap scorn on Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl after he has suffered more than most of us can imagine need to read the parable of the prodigal son. In the parable, the son who has squandered his inheritance and returned to his father in shame is welcomed with open arms by his father. When the father’s other son, who has remained loyal to his father, protests this warm welcome, the father replies, “But it was appropriate to celebrate and be glad, for this, your brother, was dead, and is alive again. He was lost, and is found.”
No matter what mistakes Mr. Bergdahl made prior to being captured, on the occasion of his return can’t we put aside our judgment for once, show a little grace and just be glad Mr. Bergdahl has returned to his family?
Andrew Huston, Washington
We're not sanguine that the good bible-thumping Christian Republicans busy smearing Sgt. Bergdahl care much about the lesson of this parable.  As Sen. Reid said on Wednesday, "It is clear they are worried his release could be seen as a victory for President Obama."

Also from this morning's Bezos Bugle, a front-page article exposing some of the flip-flopping in the Republican Party concerning Bergdahl's release (they were for it before they were against it).  Let's have some more of this front-page Republican hypocrisy-shaming, Bezos Bugle!

Not mentioned, the 24/7 right-wing calumny machine that's determined to make Bergdahl a figure to be loathed, because after all, Obama!  Also Benghazi!  Also beards! Also grifters gotta be griftin'.

You'll Always Find A Republican At The Intersection Of Ignorance And Hypocrisy

Jon Stewart takes on the things Republicans don't actually know and things they (think) they do.  Guest appearances by Rep. Michelle "Crazy Eyes" Bachmann, Weeper of the House John "Mr. Tangerine Man" Boehner, and the execrable felon Oliver North.

After six years of his Presidency, no one should be under any illusion that Rethugs will automatically default to bitterly oppose Obama regardless of previous positions they've held.

"Negotiating With Terrorists" - A Little Perspective, Please

As the Republican perpetual outrage machine tries to turn the release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl into another Benghazi, Benghazi!, BENGHAZI!, using the "Obama negotiated with terrorists!" argument, Michael Tomasky reminds us that another nation's politician not known for bending to terrorists had to make a similar calculation:
Can Republicans make this resonate outside their base? Hard to say. I think to most Americans, this is a feel-good story. We value a life, one American life. Bibi Netanyahu traded one captive Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, not for five Palestinian prisoners. He traded Shalit for 1,027 Palestinian prisoners. And there was broad agreement across the spectrum of Israeli politics that bringing Shalit to safety, even at that price, was the right thing to do.
But of course, that doesn’t matter to the right. No one outside their base cares much about Benghazi, but that hasn’t stopped them. They’ll keep pursuing Benghazi mostly to see if they can pin anything on Hillary, but when it comes to wet impeachment dreams, Benghazi may have just been pushed to the back seat. The crazy never stops.  (our emphasis)
When it comes to some in the Republican/ Stupid party's obsession with neutering President Obama and the Democratic agenda via impeachment, as FOB Gene says, "Put up or shut up".  (He also makes the point that St. Ronnie of Hollywood traded arms for hostages in the Iran-Contra scandal;  we don't seem to recall any Constitution-loving Republicans calling for his impeachment at that time.)

The crackpots might wish to recall the last time they pulled that on a sitting Democratic president:  after the Clinton impeachment failed, his approval peaked at 73% in 1998/99, and he left office with a 68% approval rating.
