Weekend Classic Performance

Continuing with a classic mood from Wednesday's Boston Cello Quartet, we're going with a classical selection that the Hackwhackers enjoyed in their youth: Tchaikovsky's Symphony 7 in E-flat, final movement. While far less famous than such works as the 1812 Overture, The Nutcracker, and Piano Concerto #1, this symphony evokes the grand sweep of Imperial Russia in the late 1800s. We were just hoping we'd have snow here in the East to make it feel more Russia-like. Eugene Ormandy conducted the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra in this 1963 recording.
