A Happy Sports Saturday

The Wisconsin Badgers faced Nebraska on national TV last night in the Big 10 opener for both teams, and pulled off a rout, 48-17. Led by their elite quarterback Russell Wilson (255 yards passing), the Badgers fell behind early, but poured on the points starting late in the 2nd quarter. Plays by Montee Ball, Nick Toon, and Jared Abbrederis led to the big win.

Earlier in the day, the Michigan Wolverines clobbered visiting Minnesota 58-0, winning the Little Brown Jug trophy for the fourth straight time. QB Denard Robinson passed for 169 yards, and Fitzgerald Toussaint ran for 109 to lead the Wolverines to victory.

From the Sports Desk

The Hackwhacker brothers had a very rewarding week of football, beginning with the Packers' victory on Thursday over the Saints, followed on Saturday by Wisconsin handily beating Oregon State, Michigan (sporting retro uniforms) winning a thriller over Notre Dame, and yesterday, the Redskins downing the Giants. Then, to make our joy complete, the Dallas Cowpies lost to the Jets on Sunday night (ed. note -- when will sports media jackasses stop calling the Cowpies "America's Team?")

Now, put down those brats and beer, and back away slowly. . . .

Rose Bowl Bound?

Following today's crushing 70-23 victory over Northwestern, Hackwhackers alma mater and #7 Wisconsin (11-1) has earned a share of the Big Ten title. Barring any butterfly ballots with hanging chads, the Badgers should get the bid to play in the Rose Bowl for the first time since 2000. Go Badgers!! Go Big Red!!

Quote of the Day - Sports Edition

"...Though Purdue began the season 1-5, it can become bowl eligible with three more wins. Unlikely as that may sound, consider that of their remaining opponents -- Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State and Indiana -- only the Spartans have a winning conference record. 'They can do the math,' [Purdue Coach Danny] Hope said of his players. 'They can read.'" - from today's clueless Kaplan Daily. Yeah, they can do math and read, but they can't score. Wisconsin 37, Purdon't 0.

No Joy in Mudville

A pair of fearsome woodland mammals, the Badger and the Wolverine, were beaten by a woody (Hayes?) tree and a fictional scout, respectively. Oh, yeah, and the Terrapins lost to a devilish preacher (Pat Robertson?!?).

More salt on the wound: the Deadskins make it an 0-fer weekend!

On Wisconsin!

Wisconsin's football team is ranked #8 in both the AP Top 25 and the Coach's Top 25 Poll, after their narrow win over ranked Fresno State. Ohio State slipped to #13 and #14 respectively. (Apologies to family members rooting for Michigan [1-3]- - bwahaha).

On Wisconsin!
