What Resistance Looks Like, Cont. -- Bernie FTW

We were impressed with Sen. Bernie Sanders' (I-VT) interview on Meet the Press yesterday.  He easily brushed aside lightweight Kristin Welker's leading questions intended to both-sides issues and slammed the Malignant Fascist on his alignment with war criminal Putin and on proposed cuts to entitlement programs.  His forceful, confident responses are models that Democrats should employ in fighting the oligarchic fascism overwhelming the country.  Check out the brief, embedded vid of him speaking to a packed, enthusiastic crowd in Omaha, NE, recently.  This is the energy we're looking for.

Tesla Stock Still Sinking Over Musk's Lunacy

South African fascist and illegal immigrant Elon "Skipping Dipshit" Musk's Tesla company is apparently suffering from his demented DOGE operation and their illegal, cruel and catastrophic cuts to Federal programs and workforce. And his destruction is far from over (see "Ugly" in the post below). The blowback from consumers can be seen in car and truck sales and in demonstrations around the nation at Tesla dealerships. Tesla largely forms the basis of Musk's wealth. From the Associated Press:

"Elon Musk’s car company is required each year to report to investors all the bad things that could happen to it, and the latest version lists every imaginable threat from costly lawsuits to out-of-control battery fires to war and another epidemic.

But there’s barely any mention in the latest annual update of Musk’s full-bore entry into right-wing politics, which some experts say is turning off potential customers who don’t share his views.

'It’s marketing 101: Don’t involve yourself in politics,' said New York brand consultant Robert Passikoff. 'People will stop buying your products.'

It may be too late.

Tesla sales plunged 45% in Europe in January, according to research firm Jato Dynamics, even as overall electric vehicle sales rose. That comes after a report of falling sales in California, its biggest U.S. market, and the first annual drop globally for the company last year.

'I don’t even want to drive it,' said Model 3 owner John Parnell, a Democrat from Ross, California, adding that he also is cancelling his order for the company’s Cybertruck, losing a $100 deposit. 'He’s destroying the brand with his politics.'” (our emphasis)

Musk's plan seems to be the corrupt targeting and elimination of Federal agencies and regulations overseeing businesses that he owns, not only Tesla but SpaceX / Starlink and Neuralink. There's also his ketamine-damaged persona which was seeking the ultimate power position of co-President when he bought the White House for the Malignant Fascist, and now rampages through the Government while the MF watches. In Musk's case, it's looking increasing like the more he destroys, the more he loses, and it couldn't happen to a more worthy sociopath.

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

The good:

A U.S. judge on Saturday declared President Donald Trump's firing of the head of a federal watchdog agency illegal in an early test of the scope of presidential power likely to be decided at the U.S. Supreme Court.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson in Washington had previously ruled Hampton Dellinger, the head of the Office of Special Counsel who is responsible for protecting whistleblowers, could remain in his post pending a ruling.

Jackson said in her ruling  that upholding Trump's ability to fire Dellinger would give him "a constitutional license to bully officials in the executive branch into doing his will."

The Justice Department filed a notice late on Saturday saying they were appealing Berman's ruling to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

Dellinger, who was appointed by Democratic President Joe Biden and approved by the Senate to a five-year term last year, said in an email to Reuters he is "grateful to see the court confirm the importance and legality of the job protections Congress afforded my position."

He added his "efforts to protect federal employees generally, and whistleblowers in particular, from unlawful treatment will continue."...  (our emphasis)
The convicted felon Malignant Fascist will continue to press this and other challenges to his power as a would- be autocrat.   Eventually, along with other cases challenging his assuming dictatorial powers, this will end up in front of the Republican Supreme Court, as corrupt a group as has ever sat in judgement other than in Russia or Nazi Germany.

The bad:

Legendary investor Warren Buffett made a rare comment on President Donald Trump’s tariffs, saying punitive duties could trigger inflation and hurt consumers.

“Tariffs are actually, we’ve had a lot of experience with them. They’re an act of war, to some degree,” said Buffett, whose conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway has large businesses in insurance, railroad, manufacturing, energy and retail. He made the remarks in an interview with CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell for a new documentary on the late publisher of the Washington Post, Katharine Graham.

“Over time, they are a tax on goods. I mean, the Tooth Fairy doesn’t pay ’em!” Buffett said with a laughter. “And then what? You always have to ask that question in economics. You always say, ‘And then what?’”

This marks the first public remark from the 94-year-old “Oracle of Omaha” on Trump’s trade policies. Last week, Trump announced that the sweeping 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada will go into effect March 4 and that China will be charged an additional 10% tariff on the same date. China has vowed to retaliate...
(our emphasis)

The moron madman seems determined to wreck the "goldilocks" economy gifted to him by President Biden through ruinous tariffs affecting consumers, multiple industries and agriculture, as well as through his mass deportation of immigrant labor.  "But we didn't vote for that," the plaintive cry of the American cuckoo was heard throughout the land.

The ugly

Elon Musk is calling Social Security a “Ponzi scheme,” prompting suspicion that the world’s richest man is merely hoping to privatize a social safety net that has existed since the 1930s — and has kept millions of elderly, poor and disabled Americans from destitution.

The billionaire argued Friday on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast that the United States government is “one big pyramid scheme” before blasting Social Security as “the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time.”

When asked to clarify, Musk said, “Well, people pay into Social Security and the money goes out of Social Security immediately, but the obligation for Social Security is your entire retirement career. If you look at the future obligations of Social Security, it far exceeds the tax revenue.”

Musk, who oversees Trump’s cost-cutting initiative for federal spending, the Department of Government Efficiency, added that “people are living way longer than expected” and thus the government’s obligation to pay the debt “will be much worse in the future.”

He is far from the first conservative to characterize Social Security as a “Ponzi scheme,” which refers to a type of fraud in which existing customers get payouts that come from the investments of new customers.

The Social Security Administration has said it could face a shortage of funds by 2035. But many Democrats have argued that the program’s funds should simply be shored up by eliminating the cap on Social Security taxes for high earners, meaning that people who make a lot of money would pay proportionately more into the program.

Elsewhere during his podcast appearance, Musk shared debunked claims about Social Security...  (our emphasis)

The illegal immigrant South African, ketamine- addled richest man in the world would love to see us go back to the Depression era when there was no social safety net, and if you lost your job and savings in an economic crash it was tough nuts;  so you worked until you dropped.  It's not like most retirees can live on their Social Security alone now as it is.  What is ugly and galling is that this sociopathic ignoramus has no clue what it's like to live on a budget, or to try to plan for a secure retirement.  He wasn't brought up in American and hasn't the foggiest notion of what the lives of average Americans are like.  This skipping dipshit who started his business with his daddy's millions now has the shitfaced gall to chainsaw his way through our country, to hell with the consequences and who gets cut in the process. (To underscore his basic un- American core, he's calling for the U.S. to get out of NATO and the UN -- Putin's got another asset in DC!)

But, if you want to see how a real Ponzi scheme works, the convicted felon Malignant Loser's got one going.

Across The Universe, Cont. -- The Stunning Veil Nebula

From NASA/ ESA, February 24, 2025: In this NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope Picture of the Week, Hubble has once again lifted the veil on a famous — and frequently photographed — supernova remnant: the Veil Nebula. This nebula is the remnant of a star roughly 20 times as massive as the Sun that exploded about 10 000 years ago. Situated about 2400 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus, this photogenic nebula made an appearance as the Picture of the Week previously in 2021.

This view combines images taken in three different filters by Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3 instrument, highlighting emission from hydrogen, sulphur and oxygen atoms. This image shows just a small fraction of the Veil Nebula; if you could see the entire nebula without the aid of a telescope, it would be as wide as six full Moons placed side by side. Look in the sidebar of this page to see this image superimposed on its location in the sky, and try zooming out to compare the size of the full nebula!

Although this image captures the Veil Nebula at just a single point in time, it will help researchers understand how the supernova remnant has evolved over decades. Combining this snapshot with Hubble observations from 1994 will reveal the motion of individual knots and filaments of gas over that span of time, enhancing our understanding of this stunning nebula.

[Image Description: A colourful, glowing nebula that reaches beyond the top and bottom of the image. It is made of translucent clouds of gas: wispy and thin with hard edges in some places, and puffy and opaque in others. Blue, red and yellow colours mix together, showing light emitted by different types of atoms in the hot gas. Bright and pointlike stars are scattered across the nebula. The background is black.]

QOTD: Foreign Policy Alignment

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov says the not-so-quiet-part out loud about the Malignant Fascist's embrace of Russia in comments published in Russia's state-controlled media:

"The new administration is rapidly changing all foreign policy configurations. This largely coincides with our vision. There is a long way to go, because there is huge damage to the whole complex of bilateral relations. But if the political will of the two leaders, President (Vladimir) Putin and President Trump, is maintained, this path can be quite quick and successful." (our emphasis)

The MF and alliance-spoiler JD Vance's alignment with "our vision" means that the Kremlin's decades-long cultivation of the MF (a.k.a. agent Krasnov) has been an unparalleled success, and will result in the isolation and decline of their long-time adversary, the United States.  Looking not only at the MF's Russia-aligned policies, but the rapidity with which he's dismantling democracy, the Federal government, and the rule of law in the U.S., and punishing our allies economically with tariffs, it's no wonder that the Kremlin sees a victory at hand.

BONUSThis editorial in The Kiev Independent gives what we think is the majority Ukrainian perspective that the Malignant Fascist "is for Russia."  He doesn't even feel he needs to hide it anymore.

"Cracks Are Emerging," But Can We Capitalize On It?

Simon Rosenberg, in his "Hopium Chronicles," surveys the damage done by Trump and his co- President:

... I don’t know how the Trumpian fever breaks, how the madness subsides, and how we return to the Constitutional order and the America we and the world has known for generations. It’s clear that in these early days Democrats have not yet found their voice on the extremism and danger of Trump - his alliance with Putin, his abandonment of Europe and Ukraine, his “off with their heads” tariffs, his unconstitutional and illegal dismantling of the US government including our global and domestic public health systems, his clear and worsening madness. Our early, narrow focus on costs and the terrible GOP budget while tactically sound, are strategically insufficient as Trump and Musk rip apart the global order and our own government in ways that will be very hard, if not impossible, to put back together. Some of the damage being done right now to what I call the America of the Four Freedoms is irreparable, which is why in the coming weeks our leaders - all of them - must work harder to find their voice on this assault and do everything they can to stop it...

Reflect on that litany of shame again.  In just a few weeks, the transatlantic alliance that has held since 1949 has been ended and Trump has aligned the U.S. with his patron and overseer Putin;  he's installed loyalists in key positions in government, including the Pentagon, intelligence agencies, FBI and Justice, who will do his bidding without question;  and his un- elected, ketamine- fueled South African billionaire co-President has been chainsawing vital government agencies, with more catastrophic damage to come.

We wonder if the leaders we have are up to that challenge, having never faced an existential black swan event the likes of Trump and his fascist coup before.  The disorienting, fast- moving chaos caught most of those leaders flat- footed, even though Trump has been telling everyone what he would do if given a second chance at power.  We'll say it again: we need better leaders who are imaginative, forceful, and proactive fighters (we noted a few here).

But Rosenberg's enterprise is called "Hopium Chronicles," so he goes on to outline the signs of hope he sees in the struggle:

My point today, on this the last day of February, just five weeks into the terrible new Trump era, is that cracks in Trumpism are emerging. He is making mistakes, huge mistakes. Public opinion is becoming more hostile to what he is doing. His economic strategy is hurting the country and people understand this. Republicans are aware their emerging budget strategy is a betrayal of working people and could drive down their standing even further. The courts keep delivering wins, and our 23 Dem state AGs have become a formidable force. Americans are waking up to what is happening, and we are seeing a growing citizen-led opposition movement spread across the country. Folks are outraged and pissed, as they should be...

There's more at the link worth reading and reflecting on.  We continue to believe ours is a bottom up struggle, and that, as Rosenberg says, little cracks can become big cracks as long as we, all of us, work harder and don't give up or give in to despair or defeatism.  We believe the outrage that's evident in the streets and in the town halls recently are signs that, as Rosenberg says, people are restive and waking up.  That's likely to grow.  But, remember, how you deal with these bullies is to get in their faces and do it "the Chicago way."

As we've always said, hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

Our Turn To Ambush Vance

After his and the Malignant Fascist's ambush of Ukrainian President Zelenskyy on Friday, JD Vance got a taste of his own medicine when Vermonters turned out by the thousands to protest his betrayal and a host of other attacks on democracy as he began a skiing weekend:

"In the wake of Vice President JD Vance’s ski trip to Sugarbush resort this weekend, the Mad River Valley was transformed into a hotbed of protests against the administration of President Donald Trump.

In the largest planned demonstration Saturday morning, Vermonters and visitors stood along a stretch of Main Street by the Mad River Green in Waitsfield toting protest signs and flags that expressed concerns ranging from the state of democracy to climate change to LGBTQ+ rights.

A stream of vehicles sporting similar signage drove by honking and waving, joining in on the morning rally. Protest organizers estimated the turnout in Waitsfield ranged between 1,000 and 3,000 people. [snip]

Tisa Rennau, a protest organizer from North Fayston with the group Indivisible Mad River Valley, said many Vermonters were outraged to learn Vance was coming to the region to recreate and vacation after the Trump’s administration’s widespread federal funding cuts and worker layoffs in recent weeks.

Rennau added that Trump and Vance’s clash in the Oval Office with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday morning undermined America’s position on the international stage and motivated more people to show up that day.

'People are angry, especially after what occurred in the White House yesterday where we absolutely humiliated an ally,' Rennau said. 'We are no longer the leader of the free world. What has happened? This is not the America we expect to be.'

Many protesters donning the blue and yellow colors of the Ukrainian flag lined the streets, and Rennau held a flower bouquet of the same color scheme herself." (our emphasis)

Significantly, the Vermont protest is one of dozens that rose up nationwide to protest the despicable meeting and other assaults on democracy since the MF and his co-President, South African fascist Elon "Dick" Musk took office. From the Guardian:

"Pro-Ukraine protests have taken place across the US after Donald Trump and JD Vance's angry exchange with Volodymr Zelensky at the White House. [snip]

Videos posted on social networks showed hundreds of demonstrators gathered in New York’s Times Square, many carrying the blue-and-yellow flag of Ukraine on their backs. In Los Angeles county, a pro-Ukraine crowd rallied in front of a SpaceX’s facility, and protesters in Boston held an “emergency rally” for “fair peace” for Ukraine at Boston Common.

'Ukraine wants fair peace. Ukraine wants the war to end,' the group Boston Supports Ukraine wrote on Facebook. 'Ukraine wants all of this on fair terms with security guarantees.'”

As the consequences of the betrayal of Ukraine and Musk's "chainsaw" cuts to popular programs expand, the resistance is starting to feel a momentum in pushing back. If we only had more courageous Dem leaders with us.

JD Vance's Time To Slime

The disgraceful performance yesterday in the Oval Office, where the mentally disturbed Malignant Fascist and his ambitious acolyte JD Vance ambushed a democratic ally struggling against a larger invading force from imperialist Russia, was triggered by a planned, snotty interjection by Vance, who's trying to get into the spotlight that South African fascist and co-President Elon "Dick" Musk has occupied. From the Associated Press:

"Vice President JD Vance was dismissing Ukraine long before he upended an Oval Office meeting Friday by calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy 'disrespectful' and asking if he had ever thanked the U.S. for its support.

When Vance was a candidate for U.S. Senate in Ohio in 2022, he said on Steve Bannon’s 'War Room' podcast that he thought it was ridiculous that the U.S. was focused on the border between Ukraine and Russia. 'I gotta be honest with you,' he told the host, a Trump ally. 'I don’t really care what happens to Ukraine one way or the other.'   [snip]

Vance has largely been overshadowed by Elon Musk and his government-cutting effort in the first six weeks of Trump’s presidency. Vance has several key roles, including serving as a liaison to Congress and overseeing the potential sale of TikTok, but had been more in the background.

That all changed in Friday’s meeting, which had been cordial until Vance spoke up to criticize former President Joe Biden and laud Trump for seeking a diplomatic solution to the war."  (our emphasis)

More on the disgraceful role of Vance in provoking the meltdown, from NBC News:

"President Donald Trump, ready to wrap up his Oval Office meeting Friday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, asked for one last question from the reporters gathered in the room.

That's when Vice President JD Vance jumped in instead, responding to a previous question about Trump's relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin by praising Trump's diplomatic approach to the war in Ukraine.

His comments yielded a sharp rejoinder from Zelenskyy, steering an already tense discussion into an unexpected, full-blown, high-volume argument for the world to watch. [snip]

An earlier meeting Friday between Zelenskyy and senators was “very bipartisan and very supportive,” Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., said. Asked about the more rancorous tone in the Oval Office, Whitehouse said: 'That’s what you get for letting Vance in the room.'

A source familiar with the planning for the Trump meeting said there was no predetermined strategy for Vance to confront Zelenskyy the way he did. Vance, the source added, felt compelled to respond after finding Zelenskyy needlessly provocative in his demeanor." (our emphasis)

There was actually a "predetermined strategy" for Vance.  For Vance to wait until the last moment to spring his performative trap is a clear indication that he had the trap baited for President Zelenskyy, trying to elevate his profile in the MF's regime in the most disgusting, un- American way. Perhaps Putin has an Order of Friendship medal he could pin on Vance for services rendered.

Classified Documents Returned To Trump's Bathroom For Safe Keeping

The boxes of classified documents the Malignant Fascist had illegally stored in his bathroom and other unsecured areas in Mar-a-Lardo are being returned to their rightful owner, the U.S. Government the Fat Führer:

The White House said on Friday that the FBI had given President Donald Trump boxes stemming from a search of his Florida property for classified documents that were taken after Trump left office during his first term.

It was not immediately clear whether the boxes included classified materials, but Trump celebrated obtaining them in a post on Truth Social on Friday night.

"The Department of Justice has just returned the boxes that Deranged Jack Smith made such a big deal about. They are being brought down to Florida and will someday be part of the Trump Presidential Library," Trump wrote. "Justice finally won out. I did absolutely nothing wrong. This was merely an attack on a political opponent that, obviously, did not work well. Justice in our Country will now be restored."  [Ed.: the preceding was a masterwork of lies, gaslighting, and Orwellian rhetoric.]

White House staffers were seen Friday loading roughly 15 boxes of documents onto the rear of Air Force One...

So, back into the bathroom and other places where they can be easily accessed by an extortionist or someone eager to provide top secret information to Russia, etc. (which happens to be the same person). It doesn't matter much now since he has access to any sensitive information he can put his grubby, small hands on.  For shits and giggles, you can read the Special Counsel's superseding indictment of the Malignant Fascist here (pdf), at least until the Department of Justice flushes it down the memory hole. What once might have been called our "national security" edifice is now a sieve leaking like the Titanic on its way to the bottom of the ocean.

Kudos to Merrick Garland, Judge Aileen "Loose" Cannon and Trump voters, and "sic transit gloria, America" to the rest of us.

More Reactions To Trump's Shameful Attack On Zelenskyy

We're skipping our usual Saturday morning video break to cover some of the fallout from the historically awful, disgusting, and wrenching spectacle of the mad moron Malignant Fascist and his lapdog Vice President conducting a pre- planned attack on the courageous President of Ukraine in the Oval Office yesterday.  As we posted then, President Zelenskyy stood up for his country and democracy against the lunatic lies and bullying from the two weak, unworthy, autocratic charlatans who were performing for Putin with Russian state media present.  Putin and his security, disinformation, and intelligence apparatus is beyond gleeful that their investment in the Malignant Fascist has paid off even more than they could have dreamed.  If there was ever a time to be ashamed to be an American, that was the time.

In yesterday's post, we linked to some early reactions from world leaders.  Brian Tyler Cohen also collected reactions and what the Malignant Fascist's alignment with the fascist autocracies of the world means for an emboldened Russia, China, North Korea, and other tyrannic states.

We also happened to catch last night's PBS News Hour's exchange between the WaPo's Jonathan Capehart and the NYT's neo-con David Brooks.  Both had some sharp comments on the Oval Office ambush, and ended the segment with some jabs at Malignant Fascist bootlicking oligarch WaPo owner Jeff Bezos for his undermining of that paper's independence.

Yesterday was yet another day that will live in infamy in American and world history, thanks to the most un- American, corrupt, ignorant, mentally ill, purely evil person ever to occupy the office of President.

BONUSThe world, minus the autocracies, stands with Ukraine.
