Things are looking somewhat ominous for Fux Channel lunatic Glenn "Boo Hoo" Beck: his ratings have plummeted nearly 40%, and some 300 advertisers have abandoned his program. As the New York Times' David Carr noted yesterday, there are rumblings at Fux that Boo Hoo's outrageous, paranoid schtick is costing the network, and his contract may not be renewed. We can only hope (although the more Fux's credibility and revenues decline, the better).
Boo Hoo will, of course, land on his feet with a lucrative hate radio show and various other enterprises to fleece his gullible tinfoil hat followers. But it's noteworthy that his act is growing stale, even among the raging right. As Carr says,
"Mr. Beck remains firm in his belief that something is going terribly wrong and it may be time to stock up on canned goods and head to the basement. The problem with predicting doomsday is that if you’re wrong, you have to figure out what to say the next day."
