Goodnight Moon
Unification Church founder and Messiah-in-his-own-mind Rev. Sun Myung Moon has died in South Korea at the age of 92.
Moon, whose church mixed elements of Christianity, Confucianism, folk religion and a lot of ego, also had a wide-ranging business empire which included the far right-wing Washington Times newspaper. His devotees, known to many of us as "Moonies," often provided the labor for his businesses, and thousands were married in mass weddings to a Moon-matched spouse they had never met before.
Among his spiritual pronouncements, he said in 1976, "God is living in me and I am the incarnation of himself," and "The whole world is in my hand, and I will conquer and subjugate the world." In 1982, unable to control the IRS or the courts with his special powers, Moon was convicted of tax evasion and spent 18 months in prison in Connecticut.
