D-Day For Supremes

The Supreme Court is expected to render its decisions on several key issues today, the most far-reaching of which are voting rights, affirmative action and marriage equality.  The right-wing members of the court may prevail in weakening Federal capabilities under the Voting Rights Act, and in striking down affirmative action programs at public institutions.  Striking down California's Proposition 8 ban on same-sex marriages -- or allowing a lower court's decision against Prop 8 to stand -- may be the bright spot in today's slew of decisions.

We'll be watching and updating.

UPDATE:  No decision on marriage equality or the Voting Rights Act today, perhaps tomorrow.  The Court remanded the University of Texas-Austin case regarding affirmative action back to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals for further review.
