Mystery Solved?
The identity of Jack the Ripper, London's infamous serial killer of the 1880s, apparently has been discovered through state-of-the-science DNA testing. Experts in the UK now say that, via DNA samples taken from the preserved clothing of one of the Ripper's victims, and cross-matching it with descendants' DNA, they've definitively identified Polish immigrant Aaron Kosminski as the killer with complete certainty.
Over the many decades since the grisly murders, guessing the identity of the Ripper has been a passion of both professional sleuths and amateur ones alike. Everyone from one of Queen Victoria's sons to a London physician have been among the top several suspects, along with Kosminski. No one at that time could have imagined DNA science and other forensic techniques that eventually caught up with one of history's most elusive criminals far into the future.
