Menendez Lines Up With Neocons
When New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez (Payola - NJ) announced today that he was not supporting the Iran nuclear agreement, it came as no surprise. Menendez, who has been indicted on serious corruption charges, co-authored the bill that required the agreement to pass scrutiny of both the House and Senate, and had earlier been making mischief with sanctions against Iran while negotiations were underway. Menendez has been a critic of anything short of Iran dismantling all of its nuclear facilities, which Iran has stated is not negotiable. He joins Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-Wall Street) and a handful of other Dems who have been fiercely lobbied by Israel's representatives and neocons here in the U.S. to vote against the President. Twenty-three Democrats have announced their support, leaving 11 more to reach the 34 votes necessary to sustain a veto by the President of any notice of disapproval. Republicans in the House and Senate are expected to unanimously vote to disapprove the agreement.
BONUS: Guess who is heavily supporting Menendez' legal defense fund? Drum roll, please: Billionaire supporters of Bibi "Bomb Bomb" Netanyahu and his Likud coalition. Man of principle, indeed.
