Intelligence and the Siberian Candidate

Today, the Senate Armed Services Committee will hear testimony from the intelligence agencies that have evidence that Russia interfered in the 2016 elections to elect neo-fascist narcissist Donald "Rump" Trump. The Committee chairman, Sen. John McCain, has been one of the few Rethuglican Senators to push for an inquiry into the cyber attack conducted by Putin's intelligence services on the Democratic National Committee and individuals. For his part, Rump continues to deny and downplay Russia's role in electing him, going so far as to claim falsely that his intelligence briefing tomorrow had been rescheduled from earlier in the week to allow intelligence officials "more time to build a case." In recent tweets, he also praised cyber spy and Russian asset Julian Assange who published the Russian-purloined e-mails and whose release of U.S. secrets endangered many U.S. agents and allies through his Wikileaks organization.

Today's hearing and tomorrow's briefing of Rump come on the heels of an ominous report that Rump and his staff are looking at downsizing the Central Intelligence Agency and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, two of several intelligence agencies that have angered Rump for exposing Russia's hand in the election. Leading the review is none other than Michael "Gen. Jack D. Ripper" Flynn, right-wing conspiracy monger and friend of Vladimir Putin. The Rump team is indicating that the intelligence organizations have become "bloated" and (this is rich) "too politicized". They also want to cut back on electronic intelligence in favor of human assets (so maybe in 2020, we'll be flying blind when Putin meddles again in the election).
