The special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russia’s role in the 2016 election is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice, officials said.
The move by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III to investigate Trump’s conduct marks a major turning point in the nearly year-old FBI investigation, which until recently focused on Russian meddling during the presidential campaign and on whether there was any coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. Investigators have also been looking for any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates, officials said.
Trump had received private assurances from then-FBI Director James B. Comey starting in January that he was not personally under investigation. Officials say that changed shortly after Comey’s firing.It would have been news had Mueller not been looking into Rump's interference, given the obvious evidence. But this opens yet another avenue into what Rump's motivation for obstructing might have been, and obviously raises the stakes even higher as obstruction would be an impeachable offense.
How much more pressure will an undisciplined, paranoid Rump tolerate before he blows a gasket and tries to fire Mueller?

Nearly 50 people went to prison for Watergate. Mueller has a long reach with the obstruction investigation. Oval, Cabinet, Congress, Military should be sweating (though they aren't smart enough, I suppose).
The wild card today is that the nature of the Republican Party has changed (and, for now, they're in control of Congress). It wouldn't be beyond the imagination to see Trump pardon all his co- conspirators (I'd argue he's already suggested as much to Flynn) as soon as indictments start flying. He has zero respect for the law, the Constitution or basic norms, so seeing that as his endgame to stop the inquiry is perfectly plausible. It would be up to the Republican Congress to stand up and impeach, a far less plausible scenario.
