Opportunist and spotlight-seeker Rudy "Noun, Verb, 9-11" Giuliani seemed to have stepped in it last night on "Hannity" and this morning on "Fox and Friends" waxing bonkers about l'affaire Stormy. That left some of narcissistic sexual abuser Donald "Rump" Trump's cult in confusion. Vicious right-wing harpie and taunter of the Parkland students Laura Ingraham had this to say on her program last night:
“But you have the president on tape on Air Force One saying he did not know about the payment, and you’ll have to ask Michael Cohen about that. Rudy just goes on with Hannity and says ‘Oh no, he reimbursed them.’Like, what?' I love Rudy, but they better have an explanation for that. That’s a problem.”Yes, lying is a problem, which is why Rump's handlers are doing everything they can to keep him from being interviewed by Robert Mueller. Sampling across this morning's reactions, I'm inclined to go with: 'This is first strike in a strategy based on the assumption that as far as his base is concerned, it's OK for Trump do whatever he wants with his money & his women; in fact, they will admire & respect him more for it; and this is all winding up to the core push of the R's 2018 run: deep state is out to get Trump look at their hysterical hand-wringing over shit that doesn't matter don't let them take the House don't let them take down our beloved take-charge-break-all-the-stupid-laws Leader.'
Richard -- You nailed it. His cult won't care and will be energized by the "deep state" bullshit as the investigations disclose more evidence of Trump's corruption and conspiracy with Moscow. Violating norms and skirting the law to them is needed to defeat the "deep state" and Washington swamp, damn the consequences for the nation.
But we can't let issues like this just slide because Trump voters don't believe it or they don't care. There is still a percentage of voters who chose Trump because they thought he would be on their side and bring jobs and stability to the economy. Now they see what a liar and a cheat he is, and maybe voters will see the corruption that he's responsible for. So when the elections come along in November, candidates who tie themselves to Trump might find that he's a anchor around their necks.
It's an information overload, to be sure. But we have to pile on when necessary so everyone can see the hoax that Trump is, and the damage he's doing. Whether it's his personal indiscretions or not, what it all boils down to is the fact that he's a liar and a cheat and he needs to be held accountable.
donnah -- Hopefully, there'll be some Trump voters who change their minds, but polling seems to indicate his numbers within the Republican Party are generally holding. There's a lot of time between now and November, so maybe they'll lose their affection when it becomes clear to them he's out for himself.
