BREAKING: Flynn's attorneys say they are now taking the judge up on his offer to delay today's sentencing because he's still cooperating with prosecutors.— Steven Portnoy (@stevenportnoy) December 18, 2018
Judge Sullivan is giving Flynn yet another chance to delay -- now telling him it's his "prerogative" whether to move forward -- because he hasn't necessarily finished offering helpful information to the government that might mitigate a sentence.— Steven Portnoy (@stevenportnoy) December 18, 2018
Mueller prosecutor Brandon van Grack haltingly tells Sullivan it is a "possibility" that Flynn is still cooperating with the special counsel's office.— Steven Portnoy (@stevenportnoy) December 18, 2018
Flynn lawyer suggests his cooperation with Mueller is mainly complete. Additional cooperation would involve EDVA case (Kian and Alptekin), probably testimony at trial.— Andrew Prokop (@awprokop) December 18, 2018
That would be the case involving Flynn's business partners acting as agents of Turkey in a plot to get dissident cleric Fethullah Gulen extradicted to Turkey.
A status hearing is now set for March 13, 2019.

That federal judge is systematically destroying Fox, Hannity, Dershowitz, and other idiots peddling conspiracy theories on Flynn. Love it.— Blue(Wave)Kel 🇺🇸 (@bluekel) December 18, 2018
Hardest hit (besides Flynn): Dershowitz, Rudy, and a millions of gullible dopes who bought that line all along. https://t.co/Ql6TzIaK8V— Tom Nichols (@RadioFreeTom) December 18, 2018
I was discouraged briefly while watching the sentencing yesterday, because giving Flynn an extension seemed like a denoument to a big buildup. But as the details were released and hashed over, it seems that it can work out and be a win for justice. The judge took zero bullshit and dealt Flynn and his lawyers a huge smackdown, personally and professionally, which Flynn deserved. Sullivan has the benefit of information in the documents that are heavily redacted, so he probably has good reason for his reprimands and desire to sentence Flynn more heavily than Mueller wanted to.
ReplyDeleteThe truth remains hidden and as much as we want to have some closure, we'll have to wait. I'm hopeful that the guilty parties up and down the Trump food chain are convicted and sentenced.
donnah - in the end, the maneuvering gives Mueller (and other Fed prosecutors) more leverage over Flynn, who thought he was going to skate yesterday.
