The Freaks Are Feasting On Each Other

Eventually, delusion, paranoia and brain worms just take over what little there is in the MAGA/ low- IQAnon / fascist mind, conspiracies beget conspiracies, and uncivil "civil wars" are waged.  Let's feast on their fighting:

On Saturday night, pro-Trump lawyer and QAnon booster Lin Wood released a recording of what purports to be a phone call between Wood and Flynn on Telegram. The audio’s publication comes amid a right-wing civil war pitting Wood against one-time allies like Flynn and other figures involved in the 2020 attempt to overturn the election.

In the call, Wood complains to Flynn that his QAnon supporters had attacked Wood online. But Flynn attempts to disown QAnon, claiming it’s a “disinformation campaign” created by the CIA.

“I think it’s a disinformation campaign,” Flynn said on the call. “I think it’s a disinformation campaign that the CIA created. That’s what I believe. Now, I don’t know that for a fact, but that’s what I think it is. I think it’s a disinformation campaign.”

Later in the recording, Flynn called QAnon “total nonsense.”

“I find it total nonsense,” Flynn said. “And I think it’s a disinformation campaign created by the left.”  [snip]

Wood’s publication of the audio comes as part of a growing feud between Wood and Flynn and other figures active in the attempt to overturn the 2020 election. The fight kicked off last week when recently acquitted Kenosha shooting defendant Kyle Rittenhouse, a former Wood client, accused Wood in a Fox News interview of deliberately keeping him in jail to raise money off of his case.

Suddenly under attack by Rittenhouse, Wood grew publicly furious that allies like Flynn and pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell weren’t strenuously defending him. The ensuing clash has consumed QAnon and other far-right communities over the past week, while Wood grows increasingly hostile, even claiming at one point that a plane he was set to take a flight on was sabotaged in an attempt to kill him.

At roughly the same time, loyal MAGAt Steve Cortes was fired from uber- right- wing Newsmax:

Former Trump campaign adviser Steve Cortes is out at Newsmax and will host his last primetime broadcast for the right-wing cable channel early next week, if not sooner, five sources familiar with the matter told The Daily Beast.

Tensions between Cortes and the MAGA cable network had long been simmering, sources suggested, but it was the Trump loyalist’s vehement disagreement—which he wasn’t shy about publicly voicing—with Newsmax’s company-wide vaccine rules that was the final straw. [snip]

“I will not comply w/ any organization’s attempt to enforce Biden’s capricious & unscientific Medical Apartheid mandate,” he blared in one tweet. “I will not be forced into the injection, nor will I disclose my vaccination status. No one should be pressured to choose between medical privacy & their job.”

Cortes publicly bashing his employer’s decision may have been the final straw, but insiders said the former Trump campaign strategist and ex-CNN contributor has long conflicted with Newsmax.

“It’s been ongoing for a while,” one current Newsmax staffer told The Daily Beast, adding that Cortes is “a constant risk” due to his penchant for making controversial and inflammatory comments.

“He’s on a delay. Can’t trust him,” the staffer further noted, claiming Cortes’ nightly program utilizes a broadcast delay to give the network an opportunity to censor potentially inappropriate content.  (our emphasis)

Then there's the split among low- IQAnon adherents as to whether John F. Kennedy, Jr., is still alive and ready to join the Malignant Loser in his quest to regain the presidency:

The theory is strange even by the standards of QAnon – which claims Democrats and Hollywood celebrities are involved in a secret cannibalistic cult which Donald Trump is secretly battling, a theory expounded in cryptic internet messages by a mysterious prophet-like figure known as Q. And while only a fraction appear to believe the JFK Jr angle, experts say it is still damaging to their relationships and their grasp on reality.

Will Sommer, author of the upcoming book Trust the Plan: The Rise of QAnon and the Conspiracy That Reshaped America and a longtime observer of the conspiracy theory, estimates that about 20 per cent of Q followers believe in JFK Jr’s re-emergence, but that those who do, “100 per cent believe”.

“QAnon itself is obviously pretty dangerous. It’s hard to say whether the people who believe the JFK Jr [conspiracy] are more dangerous than the QAnon people who don’t,” he told The Independent.

To settle things, our modest proposal is that everyone adhering to these "theories" and half- baked "beliefs" -- anti- vaxxers, low -IQAnon, Stop the Steal- ers, etc. -- need to engage in hand- to- hand combat, with appropriate medieval weaponry, with no quarter given!  Last person standing will get the handsome hat pictured above.

Recall Flynn To Active Duty And Punish Him

Loony and seditious Russian stooge, former General Michael Flynn is the target of the great ad from VoteVets.org. Trump's former National Security Advisor for 22 days before being fired for lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian officials. He initially pled guilty to that felony charge, but withdrew it in anticipation of a pardon from Trump, which he received on December 8, 2020. He needs to be held accountable for his treasonous behavior, especially after swearing an oath to the QAnon cult, violating his military oath to the Constitution.

The Daily Sedition Watch

We continue to curate the seditious cranks among us.

Oath Keeper crackpot:

Stewart Rhodes, pro-Trump leader of the anti-government extremist group Oath Keepers, posted an open letter to President Donald Trump Monday urging Trump to invoke the Insurrection Act against “domestic traitors,” order “trusted military units” to “seize all databases of the CIA, FBI, NSA, DNI, etc and the records held by all state electoral systems and administrators,” and declassify evidence of treason by “corrupt and compromised elites” who he claimed had worked with the Chinese government to subvert the election.

The letter echoes comments Rhodes made at a Dec. 12 “prayer rally” on the National Mall, where he warned Trump that if he doesn’t take action, right-wing militias will have to do so in a “much more bloody war.”

Secessionist crackpot:

On Tuesday, Rep. Kyle Biedermann (R-Fredericksburg) said that he is committed to authoring legislation in the 2021 legislative session that will give Texans a vote to allow the state to secede from the U.S.

"The federal government is out of control and does not represent the values of Texans," he wrote on Facebook. "That is why I am committing to file legislation this session that will allow a referendum to give Texans a vote for the State of Texas to reassert its status as an independent nation."

Convicted felon and utter disgrace to the uniform he once wore (again):

The Daily Sedition Watch

"Daily," because we're confident addled dead- enders supporting the overthrow of the duly elected administration of President- elect Joe Biden will be an on- going presentation of the Right-Wing Howling Loon Theater.  Here's today's sampling (not meant to be all- inclusive):

North Carolina:

On Facebook, North Carolina state Sen. Bob Steinburg (R) paraphrased a conservative commentator to make a radical suggestion: President Trump should declare a national emergency, suspend civil rights and remain in power over his baseless claims of election fraud.

Asked by a local TV station on Tuesday whether he stands by those sentiments, Steinburg doubled down, insisting that nefarious forces had corrupted President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

“There’s something going on here bigger than what anybody is willing to talk about,” Steinburg told WRAL Tuesday evening. “I don’t like conspiracy theories at all. But something is going on here that’s bigger than meets the eye.”

Virginia:

State Sen. Amanda F. Chase, a brash Republican gubernatorial contender who bills herself as "Trump in heels," called on President Trump on Tuesday to declare martial law to prevent his removal from office.

One day after the electoral college formally confirmed former vice president Joe Biden’s victory over Trump, Chase (Chesterfield) doubled down on baseless allegations of election fraud in an early-morning Facebook post.

“Not my President and never will be,” she wrote, referring to Biden. “The American people aren’t fools. We know you cheated to win and we’ll never accept these results. Fair elections we can accept but cheating to win; never. It’s not over yet. So thankful President Trump has a backbone and refuses to concede. President Trump should declare martial law as recommended by General Flynn.”

 Georgia (QAnon Congresstwit):

Billionaire Cabinet Secretary:

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos urged career employees at the Education Department on Tuesday to “be the resistance” when the Biden administration comes into power next month, according to a recording of her remarks obtained by POLITICO.

During a department-wide virtual meeting to discuss the shift to the new administration, DeVos acknowledged that most of the agency’s thousands of career employees “will be here through the coming transition and beyond.”

“Let me leave you with this plea: Resist,” DeVos said. “Be the resistance against forces that will derail you from doing what’s right for students. In everything you do, please put students first — always.”

Convicted felons:

The Perils Of A Flynn Pardon (UPDATED)

Marcy Wheeler details the complex ramifications the rumored pardon of foreign agent and convicted felon Michael Flynn by Mango Mussolini would entail.  Here's the tease:

At least three outlets (CNN, Axios, NYT) have reported the entirely unsurprising news that Trump is considering pardoning admitted liar and undisclosed Agent of Turkey, Mike Flynn. Only the NYT provides a reasonable account of what has happened since DOJ moved to dismiss the case, and only after repeating Trump’s false claims about the investigation.

None of the outlets reviewed how complex successfully pardoning Flynn will be, without making Trump’s — or Flynn’s son’s — fate worse. That’s true because the posture of the Flynn case before Judge Emmet Sullivan is such that Sullivan has multiple possible options for holding Flynn accountable, depending on when Sullivan moves and when Trump does.

Wheeler's detailed explainer illuminates a number of twists and exposures that pardoning Flynn (and, for that matter, other convicted members of the Trump regime and crime family) might present not only for Flynn and son, but also for another player.  This is most interesting:

Assuming Trump does pardon Flynn for some or all of these crimes, it would add several overt actions to obstruction charges against himself. So unless he’s sure that Mike Pence would give him a last minute pardon (or certain that his own self-pardon would withstand legal review), then pardoning all Flynn’s crimes would pile up his own exposure.

We wonder, should that knowledge penetrate Mango Mussolini's dim brain, if he would still be so eager to throw pardons around as he's escorted out the door.

Flynn Sentencing Delayed: He's Still Cooperating With Prosecutors!

That would be the case involving Flynn's business partners acting as agents of Turkey in a plot to get dissident cleric Fethullah Gulen extradicted to Turkey.

A status hearing is now set for March 13, 2019.

Check out Portnoy's tweet thread for a summary of the morning hearing's back- and- forth between the judge, Flynn and Flynn's lawyers.

Trump-Russia Investigation "Tying Up Loose Ends"

While the media is consumed with presenting its hagiography of George H.W. Bush and his funeral, there are some potentially explosive developments in the Special Counsel's investigation coming up this week to keep an eye on:
Special counsel Robert Mueller’s prosecutors have told defense lawyers in recent weeks that they are “tying up loose ends” in their investigation, providing the clearest clues yet that the long-running probe into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election may be coming to its climax, potentially in the next few weeks, according to multiple sources close to the matter.
The new information about the state of Mueller’s investigation comes during a pivotal week when the special counsel’s prosecutors are planning to file memos about three of their most high profile defendants — former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and former Trump personal lawyer Michael Cohen.
A Flynn sentencing memo is due Tuesday, and memos about Manafort and Cohen are slated for Friday. All three documents are expected to yield significant new details on what cooperation the three of them provided to the Russia investigation. (snip)
The fact that Mueller is planning a public filing about Manafort suggests he may no longer feel the need to withhold information about his case in order to bring additional indictments against others. That would be consistent with messages his prosecutors have given defense lawyers in recent weeks indicating that they are in the endgame of their investigation.
Maybe "tying up the loose ends" refers to completing the final report to be issued on the investigation; perhaps it refers to completing indictments for members of the Trump crime family and its attendants;  perhaps it also means finishing the evidentiary hand-offs to other prosecutors of ancillary crimes the Special Counsel's investigation has uncovered that are not directly in his purview.  How about all three?  Observers have noted that making the memos public in the courts keeps Trump flunky and "Acting Attorney General" Matthew Whitaker from deep- sixing damning evidence that would appear in the Special Counsel's final report.

As far as making an obstruction of justice case against Trump, the un- indicted co- conspirator has provided the Special Counsel with enough evidence (from the firing of James Comey to the dangling of pardons to various slugs) to justify a rather fat article of impeachment.

Keep an eye out today, and on Friday for the court filings and what they reveal.

We could be seeing two funerals this week.

In Like Flynn Trouble (Jared Kushner, Too)

The Flynn boys, pere and fils, are back in the Russiagate news, and not in a good way (for them).

-- The alt- right spawn of disgraced former National Security Advisor Mike "Jack D. Ripper" Flynn is in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's sights:
Michael G. Flynn, the son of President Donald Trump's former national security adviser, is a subject of the federal investigation into Russian meddling in the presidential election and possible collusion between Moscow and the Trump campaign, according to four current and former government officials.
The inquiry into Flynn is focused at least in part on his work with his father's lobbying firm, Flynn Intel Group, three of the officials said. It's unclear when the focus on Flynn began
-- Meanwhile, Daddy Flynn is facing more questions about his shady lobbying efforts for foreign governments:
House Democrats sent special counsel Robert Mueller what they say is evidence that former national security adviser Michael Flynn failed to disclose a trip he took to the Middle East to explore a business deal with the Saudi government and a Russian government agency.
The Democrats allege the retired Army lieutenant general broke the law by omitting the trip, according to the letter they sent to Flynn's former business partners requesting more information about his overseas travels and contacts.
Pressure, leverage, plea bargaining -- all come to mind here, and the Flynns are fast running out of road.

Will Daddy cut a deal if it means keeping Sonny out of the clinker? Could these developments, with the potential for flipping a Flynn, be a "big deal?" Well, as Lawfare's Benjamin Wittes, of "tick tick boom" fame, puts it today,

BONUS:  In other Russiagate news, Mueller is focusing on whether the Rump campaign colluded with Russia to use social media to manipulate voters (spoiler alert:  they did!):
Officials familiar with the investigation say that Special Counsel Bob Mueller’s probe into whether President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign colluded with Russia is zeroing in on Russia’s manipulation of voters via social media with a “red hot focus.”
Chris Strohm of Bloomberg News said Wednesday that the Mueller team will be seeking evidence from social media platforms Facebook and Twitter in an effort to determine who aided Russian groups in their targeting of U.S. voters.
Who might be implicated in this, you ask?
How the Russians knew to target the tiny voting blocs in individual districts is believed to be attributable to one or more individuals inside the Trump campaign and administration. Jared Kushner — director of Trump 2016’s digital operation — has been mentioned as a possible connection between Russian intelligence and the Trump organization.
Let us do it this time: "Tick tick boom!"

Monday Reading

Noah Rothman on why the desperate party- before- country Republican defense of Putin puppet Donald "Rump" Trump won't wash:
To the extent they are interested in protecting the President from his critics, Republicans have settled on a defense for Donald Trump: He has no idea what he's doing.
That was, at least, how House Speaker Paul Ryan attempted to save Trump from himself. "The President's new at this. He's new at government," Ryan said. "He's not steeped in the long-running protocols that establish the relationships between DOJ, FBI and White Houses." [snip]
The sequence of events that Comey recounted in testimony does not paint a portrait of a naive American President, buffeted by events beyond either his control or ability to comprehend. Comey's assertions crafted the image of a President who was eager to see the investigation into his campaign's conduct speedily concluded on favorable terms, and this directive was reinforced through punitive measures. (our emphasis)
Rump's obsession with protecting former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn is a tell to Paul Waldman (and us):
It may be that Trump believes Flynn is the keystone of the Russia scandal, and if he goes down then the scandal will accelerate until it reaches the Oval Office. It may have something to do with some piece of information or relationship we know nothing about. But what's obvious is that Trump is trying very hard to keep Flynn out of harm's way, or to keep him happy. If we can figure out why, we may understand this whole scandal a great deal better.
Our guesses?  Flynn was operating under Rump's direction in his back- door dealings with Russia and, through his contacts with Russian intelligence, has something on Rump that Rump's very eager to keep hidden =cough= make or break financial leverage =cough= money laundering =cough=.

The Center for American Progress tells us the emerging Republican Obamacare repeal bill in the Senate is a killer:
Recent reports indicate that the emerging Senate version of the American Health Care Act (AHCA) may not include the House version’s provision permitting states to waive the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) community rating provision, which prevents insurers from charging sick people higher premiums than healthy people.
Even without community rating waivers, the Senate bill would still critically weaken protections for people with pre-existing conditions. By allowing states to waive the ACA’s essential health benefits (EHB) requirements, it would enable insurers to effectively screen out sick people by excluding certain services.
As a result, people with pre-existing conditions in waiver states would face significantly higher costs and find it much harder to find insurance plans that actually covered treatment for even relatively common conditions such as mental health problems or diabetes. (our emphasis)
Not surprising that this bill is being "crafted" behind closed doors by 13 white male Republican Senators.  It kind of fits a pattern of subterfuge that allowed them to gut internet privacy regulations earlier this year:
Congressional Republicans knew their plan was potentially explosive. They wanted to kill landmark privacy regulations that would soon ban Internet providers, such as Comcast and AT&T, from storing and selling customers’ browsing histories without their express consent.
So after weeks of closed-door debates on Capitol Hill over who would take up the issue first — the House or the Senate — Republican members settled on a secret strategy, according to Hill staff and lobbyists involved in the battle. While the nation was distracted by the House’s pending vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Senate Republicans would schedule a vote to wipe out the new privacy protections.
On March 23, the measure passed on a straight party-line vote, 50 to 48. Five days later, a majority of House Republicans voted in favor of it, sending it to the White House, where President Trump signed the bill in early April without ceremony or public comment. (our emphasis)
That moment when you find your browsing history has been used to target you, thank a Republican. These are truly the mole people.

Finally, on a broader scale, Infidel has another great link round- up -- something for (almost?) everyone. It's worth your time.

He Has Met The Problem, And It's Never Him

With the White (Supremacist) House in a state of chaos after days of self-inflicted wounds by sociopathic con artist Donald "Rump" Trump, Rump has decided, after conversations with himself, that his staff is to blame for not locking him in a closet and taking away his smart phone. Rumors persist that a shakeup of the staff is imminent, with Sean "Spicy" Spicer and Reince "Prepuce" Priebus being most likely to be axed. After the New York Times' report of the Comey memo hit, the scene inside the White (Supremacist) House was grim, per Politico:
"Top White House officials learned of the looming New York Times story about a memo Comey wrote memorializing Trump’s request two hours before it went online. Aides rushed to ask Trump what he had actually told Comey. But the White House had no memos or tapes of the meeting to rebut the claims, several officials said. Trump didn’t even give an entire readout of his conversation, leaving staffers 'actually unaware of what happened,' one official said.

'It’s not like we were in on the meeting,' this person said. 'We had no idea. We still don’t really know what was said.'

Another official laughed when asked if Trump had really 'taped' the meeting, as he’s suggested on Twitter: 'If so, none of us have heard the tape.'

Trump was furious about the story, one of the officials said, but retreated to the White House residence within 75 minutes of it going online – leaving aides to 'figure out how bad the fallout was.'”
(emphasis added)
It must be punishing to work for a immature, narcissistic, dishonest ignoramus such as Rump, whose lack of self-awareness leads him to conclude the he's not the problem, everyone else is.

Comey Memo: Trump Asked Him To Shut Down Flynn Investigation

The centipede, it has many shoes, and they're dropping.
President Trump asked the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, to shut down the federal investigation into Mr. Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, in an Oval Office meeting in February, according to a memo Mr. Comey wrote shortly after the meeting.
“I hope you can let this go,” the president told Mr. Comey, according to the memo.
The existence of Mr. Trump’s request is the clearest evidence that the president has tried to directly influence the Justice Department and F.B.I. investigation into links between Mr. Trump’s associates and Russia.
Mr. Comey wrote the memo detailing his conversation with the president immediately after the meeting, which took place the day after Mr. Flynn resigned, according to two people who read the memo. The memo was part of a paper trail Mr. Comey created documenting what he perceived as the president’s improper efforts to influence a continuing investigation. An F.B.I. agent’s contemporaneous notes are widely held up in court as credible evidence of conversations.
Mr. Comey shared the existence of the memo with senior F.B.I. officials and close associates. The New York Times has not viewed a copy of the memo, which is unclassified, but one of Mr. Comey’s associates read parts of the memo to a Times reporter.
“I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go,” Mr. Trump told Mr. Comey, according to the memo. “He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.”
Mr. Trump told Mr. Comey that Mr. Flynn had done nothing wrong, according to the memo.
We'll leave it to others to determine if this crosses the line of obstruction of justice, but to us laymen, it sure sounds like Article I of the bill of impeachment.

Today's Treason Round-Up (UPDATED)

Amid the distractions being engineered by unfit nitwit Donald "Rump" Trump and his band of incompetents (=cough= flash boom Syria =cough=), we continue to focus on the slow unraveling of the nexus of connections between Rump, his associates and the kleptocratic regime of Vladimir "Vlad the Invader" Putin. Let's catch up on some recent developments.

Former Rump campaign manager Paul "Secret Agent Man" Manafort is in the spotlight again:
Aug. 19 was an eventful day for Paul Manafort.
That morning, he stepped down from guiding Donald J. Trump’s presidential campaign, after a brief tenure during which Mr. Trump won the Republican nomination, Democrats’ emails were hacked and the campaign’s contacts with Russia came under scrutiny. Dogged by revelations about past financial dealings in Ukraine, Mr. Manafort retreated from public view.
But behind the scenes, he was busy with other matters. Papers were recorded that same day creating a shell company controlled by Mr. Manafort that soon received $13 million in loans from two businesses with ties to Mr. Trump, including one that partners with a Ukrainian-born billionaire and another led by a Trump economic adviser. They were among $20 million in loans secured by properties belonging to Mr. Manafort and his wife. [snip]

Mr. Manafort’s ties to Ukraine and Russia have come under scrutiny as federal officials investigate Russian meddling in the American presidential election. Investigators are known to have examined aspects of his finances, including bank accounts he had in the secretive tax haven of Cyprus; there is no indication his recent loans are part of the inquiry. (our emphasis)
Manafort, who is now, post facto, registering as a foreign agent, and from whom Rump is now ludicrously distancing himself, is one linchpin in the ultimate investigation into "what does Russia have on Trump." Former advisor Carter Page is another:
The FBI obtained a secret court order last summer to monitor the communications of an adviser to presidential candidate Donald Trump, part of an investigation into possible links between Russia and the campaign, law enforcement and other U.S. officials said.
The FBI and the Justice Department obtained the warrant targeting Carter Page’s communications after convincing a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge that there was probable cause to believe Page was acting as an agent of a foreign power, in this case Russia, according to the officials.
This is the clearest evidence so far that the FBI had reason to believe during the 2016 presidential campaign that a Trump campaign adviser was in touch with Russian agents. Such contacts are now at the center of an investigation into whether the campaign coordinated with the Russian government to swing the election in Trump’s favor.
True to form, the Rump regime is now trying to minimize Page's role in the campaign.

Meanwhile, a third linchpin, former Nationals Security Advisor Michael "Can I Haz Immunity?" Flynn continues to learn, much like Manafort, Page and Steve "Loose Cannon" Bannon, that there's no honor (or loyalty) among thieves traitors in the Rump regime:
Retired General Mike Flynn has had a tough couple weeks, and the White House seems more than happy to kick him while he’s down.
President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser worked with White House lawyers last month to correct a financial disclosure statement that omitted any mention of payments from Russian government-linked entities, only to see the White House release that information to the press.
The White House would have been entirely within its rights keeping the information to itself—and it did so for other officials who amended financial disclosure statements.
Instead they released them, causing an additional headache for Flynn and casting more suspicion on the former Trump adviser.  (our emphasis)
"Who's this Flynn guy you keep talking about?"

Clearly, the Rump regime is busy building fire lines using former advisors and regime officials as controlled burns to keep the flames from Rump for as long as possible. The relentlessness of the F.B.I. -- and potentially, the Senate's -- investigation (and bless 'em, the leaks), the cooperation of friendly foreign intelligence agencies, combined with the neck- saving deal- cutting that is likely going on behind the scenes, would appear to make this a loser strategy. But, make no mistake, these ratf*ckers will do everything in their power to hang on, and if necessary, they won't hesitate to bring down our democratic institutions with them.

UPDATE:  Investigators now believe they have "concrete and corroborative evidence" of collusion between the Rump campaign and Russia. Man, that fire's getting closer.

Their incompetence may be our best hope.
