Sater's Time In The Barrel Next Week
Next Wednesday, the House Intelligence Committee will hear public testimony from several individuals with knowledge of Russia's use of money in trying to influence U.S. elections, most notably Russian-American businessman Felix Sater, a one-time business colleague of corrupt Kremlin asset Donald "Rump" Trump. Sater, whose company Bayrock Group was involved in Rump's SoHo Hotel project, will testify about his knowledge of Rump's Trump Tower Moscow caper.
The timing of negotiations for the Trump Tower Moscow project has been the subject of conflicting statements, with Rump claiming that negotiations ended well before the 2016 elections, while new evidence has emerged that the negotiations continued to right before the elections. Rump lied and claimed that he had no business dealings with Russia after being accused of favoring Moscow in his proposals and statements during the campaign.
Sater will appear before the House Judiciary Committee the following day, but in a closed session.

Sater was also a close associate of Michael Cohen, with whom he had grown up since childhood and had close ties to the NY Russian mafia (his father was a mob boss, in fact). Sater was extensively involved in Wall St. fraud schemes and money laundering and appears to have ties to the GRU and FSB. He's an all-around bad guy but apparently has been cooperating with Mueller's team to save his sorry ass, of course.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what the connection is to HOR Judiciary Committee would be (as opposed to the Intelligence Cttee.) but maybe it has to do with getting information that the WH refuses to release.
Jimbo -- All true. It'll be explored in the House hearings next week. The Judiciary Committee might find interesting what Sater has to say about his knowledge of Trump's financing / money laundering / bank fraud.
