We wrote a week ago about disturbing evidence that Kremlin asset and demagogue Donald "Tovarich" Trump's loving attitude toward our adversary Russia was rubbing off on rank-and file members of the military, something that military leadership was very concerned about. According to reporting, that may not be the only disturbing thing that Trump's infected the military with.
At yesterday's Army-Navy game broadcast by ESPN, a number of members of both academies flashed a hand sign that's been associated with white power. Spokespersons from both West Point and Annapolis say they are taking it seriously and investigating. More widely used to signify "OK," the hand signal has increasingly been adopted by far-right racists to indicate their beliefs. Perhaps the bigot-in-chief's presence at the game yesterday encouraged some to signify their twisted beliefs.
If the intention was to flash the white power sign, the cadets and midshipmen responsible should be expelled from their respective academies, which are not supposed to be breeding grounds for military-trained white supremacists.

I followed a Twitter debate about this. Many people were claiming the sign was a game called “Okay” where someone flashes that hand signal and if you see it, you get to slug them. However, that was a thing thirty years ago and unlikely to be something white Cadets are going to be doing now. I am unwilling to give a young white male in a military environment the benefit of the doubt. It seems unbelievable that he's just playing a harmless game.
donnah -- We're skeptical, too, that it's an innocent gesture, particularly the pictured one which is strangely upside down for an "OK" sign. We recall all of the trouble the academies had with male students acting out when they first admitted women. "Toxic male culture" seems to be morphing in some ways into white supremacy.
And if it's true, then those smug White Supremacists should be held accountable and punished.
On Twitter a whole bunch fragile soggy white right-wingers are adamant this is a Nothingburger. Of course, the USCG doesn't agree but, then conservatives don't give a shit. They do this openly now, then deny it with a smirk, while letting their allies know they've so #OwnedtheLibs. It's just a joke Liberals... that is until it isn't and the Fascists march openly...
