The "Land Down Under" Burning
Wildfires continue to burn in Australia, with a reported one billion animals perishing in the flames. That's absolutely heartbreaking. The profound tragedy is that some species will be extinct after the fires are put out, never to appear again on Earth.
The BBC has an informative visual look at the catastrophic fires and their scope and impact. Also, some U.S. firefighters have joined their Australian counterparts to lend a hand.
The immense damage that the effects of climate change have done to the planet, from the shrinking polar ice caps and glaciers, to flood-ravaged lowlands, to drought and wildfire areas around the globe, has to be tackled urgently as the existential threat that it clearly is. The Trump regime is actively working to boost fossil fuel use and undermine actions against global warming, and must be opposed in the courts and defeated in November.
BONUS: As Media Matters reports, our broken media is mostly failing to link the catastrophic fires with climate change. It's just another "if it bleeds, it leads" story to many of them.
