As we noted yesterday, the world has taken note of the bungling incompetence of Donald "COVID Donnie" Trump's handling of the pandemic. This ad from Joe Biden illustrates how the world has reacted to the danger:

Perhaps that is what they wanted, but this is probably not how they wanted it. They see themselves as the golden mountain - the epitome of the quality of life. The goal of isolation is to keep outsiders away, and keep their communities pure. The rest of the world sees us as a leper colony.
More likely however, the nuance is entirely lost on them
My wife and I are immigrants from different countries, and the conversation with our friends and family around the world has changed dramatically over the years. The shine is off. As Americans by choice, we know what the American dream is. We've seen the beauty of this country, and along the way experienced some of the ugliness. I desperately want to believe that there is more beauty remaining, but it's getting harder to find. Desperate times ahead, I fear.
Czippy -- thanks for sharing your experiences. There are desperate times ahead, and we must not shy away from that reality or be unprepared. We have to hope for the best, but expect the worst (even the worst beyond our darkest fears).
