Republican Crime Blotter: Fraud, Fraud, And More Fraud

While they're rounding up scores of Trumpist insurrectionists, the law isn't sleeping on other Republican miscreants.

It's not over until it's over:

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office is weighing whether to bring a state court case against Stephen K. Bannon, who was indicted on federal fraud charges for his role in a fundraising scheme to build a border wall but received a last-minute pardon from President Donald Trump, according to people familiar with the matter.

Bannon, one of the architects of Trump's 2016 election victory and briefly a White House adviser, was among 143 people who received pardons from Trump in his last 24 hours in office. Bannon left the White House early in Trump's term after he fell out with the president, who wavered until the last minute on issuing his former strategist a pardon, The Washington Post reported.

Bannon and three others were charged by federal prosecutors in Manhattan with falsely claiming that they would not take compensation as part of their "We Build the Wall" fundraising campaign to underwrite part of the construction of a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

The three others charged with Bannon were not pardoned by Trump.  (our emphasis)

Found some more voter fraud:

For months, conservative attorney L. Lin Wood loudly spread former president Donald Trump’s false claims that widespread fraud had flipped the election. Wood spoke at rallies and filed unsuccessful lawsuits seeking to undo President Biden’s victory in Georgia, which Biden won by nearly 11,800 votes.

Now, Georgia officials have launched a voter fraud probe with a new target: Wood.

On Monday, the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office confirmed to CNN it is investigating whether Wood was a legal resident of the state when he cast his ballot in the Nov. 3 presidential election. The news was first reported by WSB-TV.  (our emphasis)

Quack quack:

As she planned a run for the Missouri House last April, Patricia Ashton Derges went on local TV to trumpet a stem cell treatment offered at three clinics she owns as a “potential cure” for the coronavirus.

But when federal officials began investigating the claim, they found Derges was making “misleading statements” about the treatment, prosecutors said — it didn’t actually include any stem cells.

Derges, a 63-year-old Republican who was elected to the state House in November, now faces 20 criminal charges, including wire fraud and distribution by means of the Internet without a valid prescription, a federal grand jury indictment unsealed on Tuesday revealed.  (our emphasis)

They're all sociopaths and criminals at heart.

Lock them up!
