QOTD -- "No Obamacare"

Squeaker of the House MAGA Mike "Moses" Johnson (MAGA-LA) wants to assure you that, in addition to killing Roe v. Wade, MAGA Republicans want to kill the Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare"), because who needs health care anyway?!

“Health care reform’s going to be a big part of the agenda," he said during a campaign event in Pennsylvania for House candidate Ryan Mackenzie, according to footage obtained by NBC News. "When I say we’re going to have a very aggressive first 100 days agenda, we got a lot of things still on the table.

“No Obamacare?” an attendee asked.

No Obamacare,” Johnson said, reportedly with an eye-roll. “The ACA is so deeply ingrained, we need massive reform to make this work and we got a lot of ideas on how to do that.”...

Yes, and we know what those "concepts of a plan" are, and it would start with essentially repealing the ACA and fashioning a Big Insurance- backed program undermining Medicaid, raising premiums, and eliminating core protections including denying affordable health insurance for people with pre-existing conditions, while expanding programs that benefit primarily wealthy people. If that sounds like the typical Republican punching down to you, you're paying attention.

Pic Of The Day: Trump's Garbage MAGA Platform

This is a picture of the Malignant Loser yesterday in Green Bay, WI, hoisting himself into a garbage truck festooned with his campaign slogan:

Seeing it, we're reminded of a remark Harry S Truman made during a campaign event in Waterloo, IA, on October 29, 1952, while campaigning for Adlai Stevenson.  Referring to William Jennings Bryan, Truman said:

"I heard Bill Bryan make a statement, one time, at a country meeting. They didn't have any platform for old Bill to stand on, so they wheeled out a manure spreader, and he said that was the first time he ever made a speech from the Republican platform."

Well, they've gone from manure spreaders to garbage trucks, but it still the same lying bullshit.  (More in today's "Tweets / Xeets Of the Day.")

Statuary Of The Day

These "lifetime of sexual assault" statues have shown up in Philadelphia and Portland, OR.  Another, a tiki torch statue ("The Donald J. Trump Enduring Flame"), appeared in Washington, DC.

The tiki torch inscription reads:

“This monument pays tribute to President Donald Trump and the ‘very fine people’ he boldly stood to defend when they marched in Charlottesville, Virginia. While many have called them white supremacists and neo-Nazis, President Trump’s voice rang out above the rest to remind all that they were ‘treated absolutely unfairly’. This monument stands as an everlasting reminder of that bold proclamation.”

All reminders of what the Malignant Loser's legacy will be.  Bravo!

Job Creation, Wages Up

Speaking of "feels" vs. real, check out this reality:

Private-job creation burst to its highest level in more than a year during October, despite a devastating storm season in the Southeast and major labor disruptions, ADP reported Wednesday.

The payrolls processing firm said companies hired 233,000 new workers in the month, better than the upwardly revised 159,000 in September and far ahead of the Dow Jones estimate for 113,000. ADP said it was the best month for job creation since July 2023.

“Even amid hurricane recovery, job growth was strong in October,” ADP chief economist Nela Richardson said. “As we round out the year, hiring in the U.S. is proving to be robust and broadly resilient.”  [snip]

... In addition to hiring rising, wages grew 4.6% from a year ago.

Moreover, gains were widespread. Leading sectors included education and health services (53,000), trade, transportation and utilities (51,000), construction and leisure and hospitality, which added 37,000 apiece, and professional and business services, which contributed 31,000...

This is what you get in a Democratic economy, responding to Democratic initiatives like the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.  Or you could get the Malignant Loser's economy- killing tariffs, higher prices, soaring inflation, and mass deportations.  Tough choices!

Nut Job RFK, Jr.'s Stunning Revelation

The Malignant Loser has always surrounded himself with cranks that don't belong anywhere near the levers of power. Think Steve Bannon, Michael Flynn, Stephen Miller, and Rudi "Toot Toot" Giuliani. This past summer, the Malignant Loser picked up another crank to add to his entourage: Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., the former heroin addict, health conspiracy monger, and disowned candidate by his own family. RFK, Jr. was speaking to his supporters when he announced what the Malignant Lower plans for him. From CNN:

"Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told supporters on Monday that former President Donald Trump has promised to give him “control” of several public health agencies, including the US Department of Health and Human Services and the US Department of Agriculture, if he wins a second term in November.

Kennedy, who suspended his independent presidential campaign in August and endorsed Trump, said during a livestreamed organizing event that Trump told him he’d oversee a vast public health portfolio if the former president returns to the White House, and added that he’d prioritize his agenda for 'making America healthy.'

'The key that I think I’m – you know, that President Trump has promised me is – is control of the public health agencies, which are HHS and its sub-agencies, CDC, FDA, NIH and a few others, and then also the USDA, which is – which, you know, is key to making America healthy. Because we’ve got to get off of seed oils, and we’ve got to get off of pesticide intensive agriculture,' Kennedy said, according to video of the event obtained by CNN."  (our emphasis)

The thought of this brain worm loon having "control" over any agency involved in public health and food safety should be reason alone to defeat the Malignant Loser. The presumption that this anti-vax / health issue dilettante would have the final say in everything from vaccinations and pandemic responses, to medical research and food safety is absurd and extremely dangerous, but it's got the Malignant Loser's transactional style written all over it.

Closing Contrasts (And A Massive Crowd)

The Associated Press (!) gives us the contrast between the closing arguments of the Harris-Walz campaign and that of the Malignant Loser and the Junior Demagogue at their "Nazi Coachella"* rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday:

In the shadow of the White House, seven days before the final votes of the 2024 election are cast, Kamala Harris vowed to put country over party and warned that Donald Trump is obsessed with revenge and his own personal interests.

Less than 48 hours earlier inside Madison Square Garden, Trump called his Democratic opponent “a trainwreck who has destroyed everything in her path.” His allies on stage labeled Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage” and made a baseless claim that Harris, a former prosecutor and senator who is trying to become the first woman to be elected president, had begun her career as a prostitute.

Two nights and 200 miles apart, the dueling closing arguments outlined in stark terms the choice U.S. voters face on Nov. 5 when they will weigh two very different visions of leadership and America’s future.

Trump’s raucous rally, marked by crude and racist insults, highlighted the uglier elements of his coalition. But other parts of it underscored the former businessman’s appeal as someone who vows to fix the economy and the border, and as a political outsider eager to defy any and all conventions despite the risks.

Harris, the vice president for the last four years, chose a more formal setting — the grassy Ellipse near the White House — to underscore the seriousness of this moment in American history and the threat Trump poses to democracy. She faced a massive audience in the same place where Trump addressed thousands of his loyalists on Jan. 6, 2021, before they stormed the U.S. Capitol in one of the darkest days of modern history.

But more than simply reminding voters of the danger that Trump poses to U.S. democracy, Harris’ remarks were designed to highlight her opponent’s record of prioritizing his personal interests instead of the nation’s.

“Donald Trump has spent a decade trying to keep the American people divided and afraid of each other. That’s who he is. But America, I am here tonight to say: That’s not who we are,” Harris said. “I pledge to be a president for all Americans — to always put country above party and above self.”...

That's all one really needs to absorb, especially those "feels" vs. real voters who make their decisions based on their perception of the zeitgeist.  It's been made simple.  It's "freedom" vs. "tyranny."  It's "prosecutor" vs. "felon." It's "joy" vs. "hate."  It's "the future" vs. "the past."  It's "us" vs. "us vs. them."  But if those contrasts don't matter to an exhausted electorate, well ...

BONUS Here's the Vice President's speech ICYMI (start at the 1:35:04 mark).

BONUS II:  Here's the scene at last night's Harris closing argument rally on the Ellipse in Washington, DC, where an estimated 75,000 people showed up there and in the overflow area around the Washington Monument.  Now that's turnout!  --

Vice President Harris' "Closing Argument" Tonight

The  Vice President's "closing argument" shouldn't come as a surprise -- it's likely going to repeat what she has been articulating for months now.  The expected crowd (most recent estimates now put it at 50,000 +) could be the eye- popper of the event:

Vice President Kamala Harris is set to make her final case for her bid for the presidency on Washington, D.C.'s Ellipse on Tuesday where she is expected to give an optimistic and hopeful message that's focused on moving forward, according to a senior Harris campaign official.

Standing with the White House in the background, Harris will offer a split screen and urge voters to "turn the page" on former President Trump's era by pledging to put country over party, the senior campaign official said. About 40,000 people are expected to attend the event, according to an approved permit from the National Park Service -- an increase from the 20,000 people who were expected to attend, according to the permit issued to the campaign last week.

Harris has adamantly said that the speech's location near the National Mall -- the same spot where Trump delivered remarks prior to the Jan.6, 2021, attacks on the U.S. Capitol -- was to remind Americans of their choice between Harris and Trump and who would go on to the White House.

"I would and do think about that place more in the context of what will be behind me, which is the White House. And I'm doing it there, because I think it is very important for the American people to see and think about who will be occupying that space on Jan. 20," Harris recently said to CBS News' Norah O'Donnell.

"The reality of it is that most Americans can visualize the Oval Office. We've seen it on television, and this is a real scenario. It's either going to be Donald Trump or it's going to be me sitting behind the resolute desk in the Oval Office."  [snip]

Harris' campaign said she plans to paint Trump as someone who is consumed by his grievances and an endless desire for retribution, highlighting his pledge to go after those on his "enemies list" and how it contrasts with Harris' focus on her "to-do list." It's a message she often incorporates into her stump speech.

"He is full of grievances. He is full of dark language that is about retribution and revenge, and so the American people have a choice. It is either going to be that, or it'll be me there, focused on my to-do list, focused on the American people, and getting through that list of goals and plans to improve the lives of the American people," Harris said to reporters on Sunday while campaigning in Philadelphia.

Her closing argument will highlight what she claims is a desire for Americans to "turn the page" from Trump by stressing her plans and priorities for the country, namely the economy. The vice president has promised to bring down costs and prioritize the middle class in her "opportunity economy."...

We assume some cable networks will cover all or most of the speech, and it almost certainly will be streamed on the Kamala Harris YouTube channel.  We wish the campaign could've used some of their $1 billion ($118 million cash on hand) to pay to simulcast the speech on ABC, NBC, and CBS (and, yes, we know it's going to be opposite game 3 of the World Series on another network, but we think the public interest over- shadows any concerns).  Anyway, check your local listings for up- to- date information.

"Deserve Better"

The nimble Harris-Walz campaign has a new ad out appealing to voters of Puerto Rican descent, following the racist, ugly remarks made Sunday at the Malignant Loser's Madison Square Garden rally. It was notable that the Malignant Loser himself didn't disavow the remarks immediately upon taking the stage.  Why would he?  It's what he believes, too.  They deserve better;  we all deserve better.

Trump Rallies A "Rambling, Profane Farewell Tour"

In an analysis done by National Public Radio, the Malignant Loser's rallies of late have been marked by his late arrivals, his low energy, and his confused and profane language. From misnaming his supporters, to unleashing profane attacks on VP Harris and her supporters, the Malignant Loser, as the Vice President would say, has become more unhinged and unstable. From NPR:

"Over the summer, Trump had a hard time pivoting away from bashing President Biden after he dropped out. But lately, Trump has fallen into a familiar refrain of calling Harris stupid and low-IQ, and pushing back on criticism of his speeches by arguing none of her words make any sense.

'I have no cognitive,' he said in an Oct. 20 town hall in Lancaster, Pa. 'She may have a cognitive problem, but there's no cognitive problem.'

Trump has always pushed the envelope of acceptable speech from a politician, but in recent weeks he’s become more vulgar in his anecdotes and attacks.

'We can't stand you,” he said of Harris in Latrobe, Pa. 'You're a sh** vice president ... The worst. You're the worst vice president. Kamala, you're fired. Get the hell out of here!'” [snip]

It’s a tight race that has required multiple, lengthy events in a day, and the fatigue can be heard in his voice.

In many ways, the Donald Trump of 2016, 2020 and even earlier this year, who promised to “Make America Great Again,” is not the same Donald Trump who stands before voters when the curtains close on this election in November 2024.(our emphasis)

He's not only "not the same," he's far worse: he's aged, gotten more desperate as his serious legal jeopardy increases, and he's throwing everything including fascism against the wall to see what sticks this time around. His promise of retribution and vengeance, his promise to use the U.S. military against civilian opponents of his regime, and his disdain for the Constitution mark him as having devolved further into mental decline, lawlessness and delusion. He has no fear that his cult will abandon him no matter what the outrage, so he's untethered from any normal political expectations of behavior or policy offerings. That makes him extremely dangerous and toxic to democracy, and makes this election an existential one.

Trump's Circus Was In Town

ICYMI, Jimmy Kimmel covers Sunday's racist, fascist Trump Nuremberg rally ("the big orange circus came to Madison Square Garden last night, the Klueless Klux Klan showed up in force...").  Some of the damaged freaks of Trumpworld showed up, like illegal immigrant and exploding car maker Elon MuskHulk "N-word" Hogan, Dr. "Toxic, Racist" Phil, frozen fish heir Tucker "Too Toxic for Fox" Carlson, Rudy "I'll Be Living In A Cardboard Box Soon" Giuliani, and Trump's next wife, incompetent attorney Alina "Chicka-Boom-Boom" Habba.  (That list doesn't even include all the other vile, racist speakers.)  The comedy bit writes itself.
