"One's philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes. In stopping to think through the meaning of what I have learned, there is much that I believe intensely, much I am unsure of. In the long run, we shape our lives and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And, the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility." -- iconic First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt (10/ 14/1884 - 11/7/1962), from the foreword of her book "You Learn By Living" (1960). A pioneer in social justice, she was an early champion of civil rights for African Americans. She paved the way for future First Ladies in public engagement and advocacy, and was instrumental in gaining support internationally for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, serving as a delegate to the United Nations 1945 - 1952.
