GQP Losing Major Ground On Generic Congressional Ballot

The latest Washington Post/ABC News poll has rays of hope for Democrats as the midterm elections approach in 6 months:

In a positive indicator for Biden and his party, the Post-ABC poll also shows Democrats moving to rough parity with Republicans on intentions to vote in House races in November, often seen as a key indicator of the size of the potential shifts in the balance of power. Republicans need a net gain of five seats to capture control of the House from the Democrats, which would allow them to block Biden’s agenda for the last half of his term.

Today, 46 percent of registered voters say they would vote for the Democrat in their congressional district, compared with 45 percent who say they would vote for the Republican. Based on historical patterns, Democrats would likely need a bigger advantage to avoid losing their majority.

Yet last fall, Republicans held a 10-point edge and in February led by seven points on this question, known as the generic ballot. Nearly all of the change since February is the result of a shift toward the Democrats among self-identified independents, a group that can be volatile in public opinion polls.

Democrats have a 12-point margin among voters ages 18 to 39; in February, those voters were split about evenly between the two parties. Democrats have an advantage with these younger voters even though they disapprove of Biden’s performance by a 13-point margin, 52 percent to 39 percent.

When you've lost a 7 point advantage in just over 2 months, even as the GQP and useful idiots in the media have been hammering President Biden and Democrats on inflation and culture war issues, you're doing something wrong.  No doubt a lot of the damage has been self- inflicted by the public's daily exposure to the dangerous clowns who inhabit the top ranks of the GQP cult.  It also appears Biden's stagnant approval numbers aren't pulling down Democrats on the generic ballot.  But, to be fair, the poll does show continuing issues for Democrats (including, unfortunately, enthusiasm), and there's plenty to be done -- including, ffs, going on offense with a strong, winning message that includes pointing out how far out of the mainstream the GQP is, and the further damage it could do to our democracy should it gain power again.  If the January 6 committee hearings, scheduled to start in June, don't go a long way in accomplishing that goal, well ...

One statistic from one poll shouldn't give us a false sense of security.  As we've said many times before, this is an existential struggle to save our democracy, and the only poll that counts is the one that voters deliver at the ballot box.

New Poll Shows Trump Approval Slipping

The latest ABC News/ Washington Post poll:

That's down 6 points since the last ABC News/ Washington Post poll in July.  The poll also indicates that 6 in 10 Americans think a recession is likely in the next year.

But, the enduring humiliation for our country is not that Trump's approval rating is lower, it's that it's still so high.

Trump, Republicans Losing The Shutdown Blame Game

From the latest Washington Post/ ABC News poll (click on image to enlarge):

The findings comport with a Reuters/ Ipsos poll from last week. And a new one from CNN.

Small comfort for the federal workers, contractors, businesses, farmers, low- income families and others (including those of us who'd prefer not to have E. coli in their food).

A Very Bad Poll For Hillary Clinton

The latest Washington Post/ABC News poll has a bad number for Hillary Clinton vs. orange codpiece Donald "Rump" Trump (our emphasis):
... [I]n a head-to-head general election matchup, Clinton leads Trump 51 percent to 39 percent among registered voters nationwide, the poll found.
"Bad," you say?  Twelve points!? With that kind of a lead, she has it in the bag!  With new energy and new Millennial voters coming into the Democratic Party, not to mention Rump's toxicity, this will be a cakewalk!  People can relax, stay home or purity vote for Jill Stein even!

Let's see if there are any recent examples of how this thinking might go disastrously wrong...
When you look at the [Brexit] numbers, it’s quite fascinating. The youngest voters wanted to stay in wide margins, and the oldest voters wanted to leave.
And that’s the exact opposite of who turned out to vote. Older voters turned out, younger voters did not. So it didn’t matter if the overwhelming majority of millennials preferred to remain in the EU, they simply didn’t vote to express that opinion.  [snip]
... You might think your vote doesn’t matter — and that is what’s going on if you’re voting for a third party, in your heart of hearts you “know” that your vote won’t really get Trump elected. Well, you might want to talk to some British millennials right about now.
That, unfortunately, fits a pattern in this country of the most progressive cohort (today, the Millennials) simply not bothering to show up to vote.  If this historic trend continues in the 2016 election, it could spell disaster for us.  (We're not picking on Millennials here;  the youngest voting generation has always shown a reluctance to get into the voting booth.)  Here's a chart that's been on the Internetz that illustrates what not exercising your voting franchise means, again in terms of the Brexit voters:

No matter what the polls tell us, no matter the margins between now and election day, no matter who else is on the ballot, every American who values liberal democracy, equality, tolerance, and human decency has to get themselves to the polls and vote for Clinton and every other Democrat on the ballot.  Just a reminder what happens when you "assume:"

Benghazi! Benghazi!! Ben...Uh, What Poll?

The latest Washington Post/ ABC News poll shows some erosion is "likeability" for Hillary Clinton (mostly among Republicans), but recent efforts by Republicans and their water-carriers in the media to "soften her up" with the faux email kerfuffle and reopening House hearings on Benghazi! don't seem to be working too well for the Republican/ New Confederate/ Stupid Party:
Tested against four possible Republicans in a general election — Bush, Cruz, Walker and Rubio — Clinton holds double-digit leads in every case. Bush does marginally better than the others but trails by 53 percent to 41 percent among registered voters, while Cruz runs weakest at 54 percent to 37 percent. (our emphasis)
The usual caveats:  Clinton hasn't announced and the election is 18 months away.  But those are almost Franklin Roosevelt/ Herbert Hoover 1932 numbers there.

A fanfare for the Republican aspirants is called for.
