QOTD: "In A Huge Hole"

On MS Now this morning, Jim VandeHei, founder of D.C. "insider" tout sheet Axios, describes the gloom inside the White House over the unhinged and flailing Malignant Fascist's self-inflicted wounds, which will bring their MAGAt party down in the coming mid-terms:

“I think the biggest alarm for him and for Republicans is they look at the House map and it looks like almost impossible for them to keep control of the House. They look at the Senate and they start to look at states like Iowa, Ohio, Alaska, Texas, Maine, all of which should be very, very winnable, maybe not even competitive. And they all look suddenly in danger.

To me, the most interesting thing is talking to people around the president. Their language and body language has changed markedly in the last two months. They know they're in a huge hole and it's going to be really, really hard to get out of it. They don't even really defend it anymore. They understand that we're here by a series of choices that the president made by himself.

How to prosecute this war was his choice, to do tariffs; the way he did was his choice to unleash ICE into neighborhoods before ICE was properly trained to do it was his choice –– to then promote that in a very chest-thumping style. That was his choice and now Republicans are having to pay for that. (our emphasis)

His sleepless nights spent rage tweeting are getting worse as his dementia and megalomania remains unchecked and untreated. They brought this on themselves willingly, so let them go down in the fire he set.

Today's Neo-Fascist Fan Fic

Recently, we called out the once great Washington Post's Bezos Bugle's dim- witted David Ignatius for an op/ ed suggesting the Republican/ New Confederate/ Stupid/ Shooter's Party look for the very model of a modern major-general to save it in 2016.  (David Petraeus?!?)

Not to be outdone, former Bezos Bugle stenographer and Politic-ho founder Jim VandeHei has now written a "think piece" minus the "think" for Rupert "Aargh!" Murdoch's Wall Street Journal, in which he talks about a third party candidate representing "Normal America" (no link - there's a WSJ paywall we refuse to deal with).  Two of his points of reference are his hometown of Oshkosh, WI, and current home Lincoln, ME.

We'll let Jamelle Bouie commence with the disembowelment:

VandeHei's ideal candidate and campaign sounds suspiciously proto- fascist (Trump with impulse control is the model):
Exploit the fear factor. The candidate should be from the military or immediately announce someone with modern-warfare expertise or experience as running mate. People are scared. Terrorism is today's World War and Americans want a theory for dealing with it.
"Bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran."

But who he ends up with as potential presidential timber, mmm, not so much (wait for it): Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg!  Keep in mind VandeHei is the caliber of pundit that is treated as a Very Serious Person by, well, other Very Serious Persons.  As such, he is ceded valuable space on the nation's opinion pages.

As Bouie concludes,

BONUS:  Steve Benen says VandeHei has met "Establishment Ameerica," and it is VandeHei.

BONUS II:  Charlie Pierce facetiously wonders if VandeHei's piece is a satire - if only.

BONUS III:  Five Thirty Eight clues VandeHie into what "Normal America" really looks like.

Politicrap from Politico

From Politico editors Jim VandeHei and John Harris, the continuing Rethuglican narrative trying to de-legitimatize Barack Obama is taking shape:
"If President Barack Obama wins, he will be the popular choice of Hispanics, African-Americans, single women and highly educated urban whites. That's what the polling has consistently shown in the final days of the campaign. It looks more likely than not that he will lose independents, and it's possible he will get a lower percentage of white voters than George W. Bush got of Hispanic voters in 2000.

"A broad mandate this is not."

Hmmm. In other words, ballots come in demographically-coded colors. If you don't have enough of the white-male coded ones, you're not legit! Nice!

But it shouldn't surprise anyone that the "Tiger Beat on the Potomac" boyz are among the first to try to discredit a probable Obama victory tomorrow. VandeHei is married to a former staffer for Rethuglican hit-man ex-Rep. Tom DeLay (Felon-TX) -- although he worked at one time in Democratic Sen. Herb Kohl's office -- and Harris is an occasional collaborator with Hackwhackers' Wanker Emeritus Mark Halperin (son of Rethug sinecure Morton Halperin). Presumably the boyz hadn't been getting their calls returned from Democratic spinners quickly enough, so Politico has developed into a reliable source of inside-the-Beltway conventional wisdom wired heavily Rethuglican.

On a related note: in the pudnitz' arsenal of upcoming excuses for noted white boy Willard "I Like To Fire People" Romney's expected loss: Hurricane Sandy! Also: Massive voter fraud! Also: Nerds! But a broad mandate? Nah!

Politico Plays Softball With The Dick

"Politico" stenographers Mike Allen and Jim VandeHei (former Kaplan Daily "reporters," whoda thunk it?!) have conducted a double knob job, er, interview with former VP Dick "Dick" Cheney, subject: Barack Hussein Hitler Obama and his failed Afghanistan policy (yet to be announced). You have two options: check out Kos' take, or check out Wonkette's. Better yet, check them both out! Unfortunately, the transcription does not provide the slurping and sucking sounds emanating from the stenographers as they "take" "dick"- tation (pardon the lame puns). Way to do your jobs, "men!"

(Photo: "Are you two finished yet? C'mon hurry it up - I don't have all day!")
