This Explains a Lot

A new study by British researchers has shown that people who describe themselves as "liberal" have brains with a larger anterior cingulate cortex (which is associated with the ability to understand complexity), while self-described "conservatives" have a larger amygdala (which is associated with feelings of fear and anxiety). In short, conservatives who may be reading this won't understand, but they'll be mad and scared as hell anyway.

Stats of the Month

It's less than two months until the midterm elections. Let's play a game called "Where's the disconnect?" Check out these numbers from a new Kaplan Daily-Kaiser-Harvard poll (via the Kaplan Daily) and see if you can spot the disconnect:

57% of independents say the federal government has the wrong priorities.

53% of independents say the federal government hasn't really helped their families.

71% of independents say someone in their family has received unemployment benefits, mortgage interest credit, or Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security payments in the last two years.

These are independents, mind you, not the typical Rethug wingnut "moran." We're doomed.

Morans of the Media, Unite!

We have more evidence today of certain oxygen-deprived elements of the commentariat (not Wee Willie Kristol or Rich "Not Master of His Domain" Lowry this time) trying to go against the flow (unlike Winky's dead fish analogy) with their "Palin-is-a-genius!" meme. Ladies and germs, we present Camille "Brass Balls" Paglia and from Politico, the blind squirrel's favorite Villager web site, Roger "Simple" Simon. I have a cat named Doughnut who has more insight in one whisker than these two morans.

O My!

Hat tip to Germantown correspondent Brian, who pointed out this story about the misspelled "Natinals" jerseys to us. The tea baggers must have been at work that day.

Morans! More home skooling is in ordure!

Another Wingnut "Moran"

Please note the Barbie holding the sign on the left. What's wrong with these morans? (Hint: They're having a crisis of speling.)
