Makers and Takers

Harold Meyerson notes that, when it came to campaign contributions, President Obama "won" the high-tech sector, while Willard "I Thought I Had It In The Bag" Romney "won" the banksters and casino moguls:
"Obama won overwhelming backing from the most productive and innovative sector of American capitalism. Romney won the backing of finance and casinos, whose contributions to American productivity and well-being are more difficult to discern, and which are industries based on reshuffling resources in games the house almost always wins. Obama, if you will, won the makers; Romney, the takers."
We all know which is the "smart" money.

Quote of the Day

"Imagine an election in a Third World nation where a small number of millionaires and billionaires spent massive sums to push the outcome in their preferred direction. Wouldn't many people here condescendingly tut-tut over such a country's 'poorly developed' sense of democracy and the inadequacy of its political system? That, of course, is what is going on in our country as you read this. If you travel any place where there is a contested House or Senate race, you are bombarded with attack ads, almost all against Democrats, paid for by groups that do not have to reveal where their money comes from." -- E. J. Dionne in the Kaplan Daily. He goes on to note that while this is "a huge deal," the media is treating it like politics-as-usual.

Obama's Haul

The Obama campaign announced yesterday that it received a mind-boggling $150 million in campaign contributions in September. By comparison, he collected $66 million in August. With this vast haul, he can afford to spend, for example, $5 million in reddish West Virginia and elsewhere to keep McAngry running around to defend his shaky base. In many states, he's outspending McAngry on TV advertising by 3 or 4 to 1.

Andrea "Ms. Greenspan" Mitchell said yesterday on Meet the Press that Obama could buy so much airtime that McAngry would be shut out of the TV markets. Might not be a bad idea for McAngry; have you seen his latest, in which he begins, "The last eight years haven't worked very well, have they?" No, they haven't, Einstein, and thanks for voting with Dumbya over 90% of the time.

Meanwhile, McAngry announced that he will be holding a bake sale next Thursday in Cowpie, Oklahoma. Mmmm. Love that earthy flavor!!
