Mid-Week Sunny Side Song

The very talented jazz singer / bassist Esperanza Spalding began as a child prodigy in her Portland, Oregon home, playing violin with the Chamber Music Society of Oregon at the tender age of five. She went on to win a scholarship at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, and has won five Grammy Awards. Earlier this year, she performed at the White House playing the classic "On The Sunny Side of the Street" for the President and First Lady. Enjoy.

Today we're featuring a performance by lovely young jazz vocalist and bassist Esperanza Spalding, who won the Best New Artist Grammy in 2011, the first ever by a jazz musician. At only 20, she became an instructor at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and has performed concerts all over the world. Here she is performing "Tell Him" at the White House in May, 2009.
