QOTD: "Trump Tanked It"

Vice President Harris in battleground state Arizona yesterday, talking about last spring's bipartisan immigration bill that the Malignant Loser killed because he wanted an issue to run on:

“It was the strongest border security bill we have seen in decades. It was endorsed by the Border Patrol union. And it should be in effect today, producing results in real time, right now, for our country.

But Donald Trump tanked it. He picked up the phone and called some friends in Congress and said, ‘Stop the bill,’ He prefers to run on a problem instead of fixing a problem. And the American people deserve a president who cares more about border security than playing political games and their personal political future.”  (our emphasis)

The Vice President needs to hit the Malignant Loser hard on his cynical and dishonest stance on the border. His undermining of the immigration bill is yet another example of putting his own interests (i.e. winning the election and avoiding prison) above those of the country.

Biden's Border Challenge To Obstructing MAGAts

The Malignant Loser would like nothing better than to sabotage the teetering bipartisan border deal being negotiated in the Senate. He wants his racist, red meat immigration issue back for the 2024 elections and to deny President Biden a compromise win at the expense of addressing an emergency. An added bonus for the Malignant Loser is to make his ally Putin's job easier in Ukraine by withholding aid to the brave Ukrainians, aid which MAGA Republicans cynically have tied to a border bill (along with aid to Israel).

In a response to MAGA obstruction, President Biden stated yesterday that the proposed Senate deal would allow him to shut the border down when the situation became overwhelming, calling their bluff:

“It would give me, as President, a new emergency authority to shut down the border when it becomes overwhelmed. And if given that authority, I would use it the day I sign the bill into law.”

Biden's position reflects concern expressed by key Democratic legislators and big city mayors who have been absorbing large influxes of immigrants, often bused there by posturing MAGA governors like the vile Governors Greg Abbott of Texas and Ron "Bootsie" DeSantis of Florida. The Malignant Loser's sabotage was publicized widely, making it dangerous for MAGAts to claim bad faith by the White House and Dems. By showing that he's ready to take action on the border immediately with the authority of new legislation, Biden has put the ball back in the MAGA Republican's court to do something other than obstruct for the benefit of their cult leader, who wants to sow his usual chaos.

QOTD -- Taking Control Of Immigration

 

"Biden needs to find a way to demonstrate that his administration is taking control of immigration in general and the border in particular. Then he can propose the obvious compromise that could appeal to most Americans: a better, faster, more predictable legal immigration system but a tougher, more effective way to restrict illegal immigration. Or else, the populist right will use this issue to keep gaining ground in the United States just as it has in Italy and Sweden." -- Fareed Zakaria in the Washington Post, arguing that recent elections in Sweden and Italy ushering in populist far- right/fascist governments should serve as a warning to the Biden Administration not to sleep on reforming the immigration system, not only for the migrants' sake, but to defuse a potent populist fascist issue in our elections.  Not that they'll have any good faith partners on the Christofascist Republican side.
