Whenever at a loss for inspiration, it's good to go to a piece of music that puts you in a mood you want to be in.  Today, it's a reprise:  Love's "Maybe the People Would Be the Times or Between Clark and Hilldale," from their 1967 album, and one of the greatest ever made, "Forever Changes." Arthur Lee's composition, with its intricate arrangement of lyrics and varying up- tempo musical styles, have the effect of making you feel it's a sunny California day between Clark and Hilldale on Sunset Boulevard in LA, the same block where the Whiskey a Go Go club stands. It's cold and snowy here, so ... Hope you enjoy.

Weekend Music Twofer

We've got an LA music twofer today, starting off with a new release from Mikel Jollett's The Airborne Toxic Event, "Come On Out."  Jollett is also a  best- selling author and a worthy anti- Trump
tweeter *.  His book, "Hollywood Park," is also the title of their new album.

We've featured songs by Love before because ... great music.  Silver Spring Bureau Chief Brian suggested this Love song, "Always See Your Face," from the 1969 album "Four Sail."  In 2014, New Musical Express ranked "Four Sail" number 1 on its "101 Albums to Hear Before You Die." The great Arthur Lee was the only original member of Love on this album following the previous, superb album, "Forever Changes" -- talk about turnover, the bane of rock bands!  Hope you enjoy.

Weekend Love Times Three Music

Blog musical curator and Silver Spring Bureau Chief Brian has directed our attention to a classic Los Angeles band long praised by critics that we lost in the fog of time:  Love.  One of the few racially diverse bands that formed in the '60s, Love was led by the ill- starred genius Arthur Lee.  Fellow original band member/ guitarist/ songwriter Bryan MacLean was briefly a roadie for The Byrds (as well as a David Crosby bud), whose music inspired some of Love's early songwriting.  We're featuring one song ("No Matter What You Do") from their eponymous first album and two from their third album, "Forever Changes," which is generally rated among the top 50 rock albums of all time, "Alone Again Or" and "Maybe The People..."  Hope you enjoy.

On this Valentine's Day, we reflect on William Shakespeare's immortal thoughts on love:
