Things In Iraq Are Looking Bett. . .Um, What's This?

Just when Dumbya was putting a smiley face on events in Iraq, the Iraqi political winds began to blow. And look what it's blowing in: the main Sunni party has threatened to pull out of the government altogether next week unless the Maliki government meets a number of its demands. Some samples: purge the Iraqi police of Shiite militia, release of thousands of detainees, investigations into the bombings of Sunni shrines, etc. What are the chances of the demands being met by next week, keeping in mind the legislature is on vacation? The same as Dumbya ever admitting the enormous blunder he made in invading and occupying Iraq: zero.

Bushville - A Gated Community

There are news reports today that U.S. troops are building a wall around the Sunni neighborhood of Azamiyah in Baghdad. Residents are highly resentful that the wall is being constructed without having consulted first with the local council. The reports say that the wall will separate the Sunni neighborhood from surrounding Shiite communities, and will be gated and guarded by Iraqi soldiers. Not only are we engaged in nation building, but now our troops are being asked to build walls around neighborhoods in Baghdad. Chances are they'll be the next symbol of occupation that will be targeted by bombs.
