Today In Moscow Mitch
Russian hacking enabler and corrupt fraud Kentucky Sen. "Moscow Mitch" McConnell has been able to con too many coal miners in his state for years, portraying himself as their champion, when it's the mine owners that Moscow Mitch has fealty to. The mine owners have a long history of union busting and bloody labor wars with miners (see Harlan County War, for example). So when it comes to doing something for miners in his state, Moscow Mitch stands with the mine owners and balks. The most recent example is his blocking of legislation that would help pay for coal miners' pensions.
While he has a problem with sustaining coal miners' pension funds, he had no problem shoveling millions into a Russian-oligarch funded aluminum plant in his state using the same appropriation as the miners' pension relief would have. Moscow Mitch went so far as to vote to lift sanctions on the oligarch, Oleg Deripaska, a Putin ally, earlier this year to facilitate the scam. His blocking of legislation to protect the 2020 elections from Russian sabotage earned him his deserved nickname, and his machinations over the Russian-backed aluminum plant cemented it.
One can say that Moscow Mitch puts country over party, but that country would be the Russian Federation. Kentuckians have an opportunity in 2020 to retire him in ignominy by electing Amy McGrath to the Senate. You can help with that mission here.
