Oops, He Did It Again

Virginia Rethug Gov."Blowdry Bob" McDonnell is back in the news showing off better flips than the aerialist skiers at the Olympics. The latest campaign promise that's been hastily abandoned is Blowdry's support for redistricting reform. Following on the heels of his reneging on selling Virginia's ABC liquor stores to raise transportation revenue, as well as his eagerly spending stimulus money he was emphatically against Congress passing, Blowdry is fast becoming a star hypocrite in a party that knows no bounds when it comes to hypocrisy and sham values. In other words, his future is bright.

Reneging on a Promise? Easy as ABC!

In the recently touted, victorious campaign of Rethug "Blowdry Bob" McDonnell for Virginia governor, one of the keystones of Blowdry Bob's plan to fund transportation improvements in the Commonwealth was to sell its Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) liquor stores. Blowdry Bob's claim that this would generate $500 million for transportation improvements was generally scoffed at, but it helped him get through the election.

Well, now that he's Governor, Blowdry Bob's Rethug cohorts are pulling back on his promise to sell the ABC stores -- in order to give the measure "more study." Be assured he will study it for 3 1/2 years, until he's ready to leave office, and the Rethugs will need to come up with another shell game to delay raising revenue to pay for transportation needs. It's how they (if not Virginia drivers) roll.

Virginia's Open for Bidness

Newly-elected theocon Rethuglican Gov. Robert "Stealth" McDonnell is allowing his Cabinet members to serve on corporate boards, according to the WaPo. Cabinet Secretaries already make around $150,000 per year in salary. So when a lot of Virginians are out of work, blowdried Bob is letting his top political appointees hold down more than one job, and well-paying ones at that.

We would hope Virginia's righteous teabaggers would protest this unethical Gummint situation. But since it involves Gov. Stealth, a Pat Robertson-taught Rethuglican winger who poses as a "moderate," it ain't gonna happen. And besides, he's white.

"Stealth" McDonnell Lets the F-Bomb Slip

Beeeeeeeoooo- Blam! Virginia Rethug goober-natorial candidate Bob "Stealth" McDonnell accidentally dropped the F-bomb in a live interview on a Washington-area radio station. The Pat Robertson acolyte was discussing whether or not if elected he would raise taxes for transportation projects (especially in Northern Virginia) when the F-bomb was dropped. Apparently, McDonnell wanted to say "funding" but in exquisite Freudian fashion, he let his true intentions be known - he wants to f**k Northern Virginia! (h/t Huffington Post)

Macaca!

The lead of Rethug candidate for Virginia Governor Bob "Stealth" McDonnell has dropped in recent polling by half (down to 7 percent over Democrat Creigh Deeds). One reason to hope this "New Nixon"-type candidate will continue to plummet is a master's/law thesis he wrote 20 years ago, when he was a mere lad of...34. Seems the thesis, which McDonnell brought up himself to reporters, is full-bore American Taliban. (McDonnell, a long-time social right-winger who attended Pat Robertson's Regent "University", has been trying to tack to the center in the hopes of convincing enough inattentive voters that he's no threat to them.)

As Ruth Marcus points out, the "93-page, 176-footnote 'macaca' moment" presents all the ugly Christian right ideology made famous by Robertson and Jerry Falwell: anti-woman, anti-gay, anti-working poor. The thesis itself is a plan which McDonnell lays out for Republicans to use government to "strengthen the family." Hopefully, the Democrats will take this and run with it, ironically (as Marcus points out) using social wedge issues against a person and party that have long done the same. Turnabout is fair play, and all.
